How to Survive Life in the Suburbs

Am I My Hubby’s Hooker?

in Everyday on 08/02/10

*Warning: Super honest post ahead.

After almost 14 years of marriage I feel like I still wield some power.  C’mon, I can’t be the only girl out there who is trading IT away.

“Ug. I think I have a headache.” Is commonly heard uttered from my lips.  Sometimes it is legit!

Back rub begins.  Le Sigh.

“Honey really, “ I lament “I’m sorry I’m just SO tired.”

Then Hubby pulls out the big guns.  He offers to let me sleep in the next morning, wash my car, and go grocery shopping.  As a last ditch effort he offers to take the kids WITH HIM on his grocery run.

Suddenly I am all kinds of in the mood.

Did I just prostitute myself out for a clean car, a quiet uninterrupted nap and some snacks?

Sheesh.  Next time I am holding out for jewellery.

You go girl, I think that’s awesome but you have to start working on bigger gifts.

Geez, all I get offered is a tissue to wipe up afterwards!

      What am I doing wrong?

      LOL!

Yes, yes, and yes. I have done this, and will do it again. It’s called survival in the suburbs, no doubt.

With my son, I change the term “bribery” into “positive reinforcement.” I think there are similar translations with adults.

I know, what do you do? Grin and bear it, right? The extra sleep is so nice!

No, you didn’t trade that stuff out… He just really knew how to turn you on! For me? It’s when he would offer to do the dishes and vacuuming. Oh, and walk the dog!

Wow! I thought I was the only one that did things like this! I can so TOTALLY relate!

Hysterical. My only advice would be to up the “price” next time. Not bad for a beginner hooker, but next time you may be able to get him to clean the kitchen and make dinner too…lol.

Guess I need to hold out longer, I would LOVE to see my husband take the kids shopping. A few hours with no screaming in the house? Sounds AMAZING!

I’m not sure if I’ve ever done that… I have not been in the mood and he’s gotten me there with persistence LOL… I didn’t know I could get chores done out of the deal!!

Leaving the house behind and headed to Ontario cottage country. 🌲☀️
The hubby and I are planning a 7 night lakeside escape just a few hours from home, and honestly, this is where the girl math really starts mathing. After an expensive year, I’m extra grateful for our HomeExchange membership — and I love browsing all the gorgeous lakefront homes nearby!

Do you have a favourite town or lake in cottage country? Tell me!!

One annual membership fee + listing our home = unlimited swaps all year long. Affordable luxury travel for the win.
