How to Survive Life in the Suburbs

Sobey’s Dessert & Surviving the Party

in Uncategorized on 08/02/10

A quick trip to Sobey’s to stock up on all things every good Canadian needs to get through a long weekend and survive a pool party with eight extra screaming girls.

This included a very special desert. Vanilla & Pecan Pops.

IMG_4380When I got home, I got my Martha Stewart on and impressed the heck out of myself.  Believe it or not this is so simple and so yummy, so I thought I should share.

I toasted and and then finely chopped 100g of Pecan Halves.  Our house smelled so good!

Using an ice cream scoop warmed in hot water I scooped eight small balls of ice cream and placed them on a parchment lined baking sheet.  Then popped it back in the freezer for 30 minutes. *So important to dip that scoop in warm water to get nice round scoops!

I rolled those little scoops in the chopped pecans and pressed lightly to hold the pecans in place.  Good grief my hands were cold!

Then I pushed a Popsicle stick into the centre of each ice cream ball and set the pops back on the baking sheet.  Froze them for a few more minutes and they were ready to serve!

The rain held off, the girls had a blast, no fights, no tears, and I didn’t even stress about the mess!  Oh, but I must confess. These little Vanilla Pecan Pops were too good to share with the kids, so I gave them Drumsticks and Hubby and I hogged the special dessert for ourselves!

Disclosure: I received a Sobey’s gift card in exchange for participating in this program and doing this post. The opinions expressed are my own and are in no way influenced my the receipt of said gift card.
