How to Survive Life in the Suburbs

Goodbye Freedom – Hello Noise

in Everyday on 06/30/10

P2100035 P2120030

Goodbye to that sweet silent cup of coffee in the morning. Sigh.

Goodbye to the untold hours I had to read, and comment on blogs.

Goodbye to my long uninterrupted showers. I will miss you.

Goodbye to lunch dates with adults, with cutlery and linen napkins.

Goodbye my precious manis and pedis. There is no time for you now.

Goodbye to gossipy uninterrupted phone chats!

Goodbye to the quiet.

School’s out for summer!!

HELLO to the noise.

Hello to “There is nothing to eat. I don’t want that She’s bothering me.”

Hello to “Can I have a play date. Please. Now? Please. Why not?”

Hello to pink paint on the deck, and marker on the table.

Hello to sticky melted popsicles running down fingers and dripping off chins.

Hello to rowdiness in the pool, giggles and screams of delight.

Hello to soccer games and grass stains.

Hello to sunscreen, sunburn and swimming by the hour.

Hello to falling off bikes and swings, bumps on the head, splinters in bare feet and Frisbees to the face. Umm. Yes, this is a home of summertime klutzes.

Hello to picnics outside, butterfly chasing and late nights under the stars.

Hello to sneaking in the occasional late night skinny dip!

Don’t hate me, but I do love these two months of “freedom”.

Cheers to all things summer!

I don’t know how my poor Mom coped with the long summer breaks – there was four of us. Maybe that was a good thig though, as well all kept each other entertained!

Our perspective is so different from the kids. Hope you survive well. Focus on the skinny dipping and butterfly chasing. Separately of course.

I am sure the quite time will be missed, but the summer months are oh so fun and a tad bit exhausting. Live it up and enjoy, but August, you will be ready for the manis and pedis and reading time again!

I love summer also, in spite of the fact that I feel like a referee the whole time. It is the best!

It is a much crazier time, but I do love it.

I miss my down time, that’s for sure, but summer…ah. I LOVE summer.

My son spent 7 1/2 hours at the hockey rink yesterday (4 trips for me in the car) and then baseball under the lights last night (straight from hockey-another trip).

Then, can you believe he went on his stupid XBox until 1:00 in the morning. That thing has to go! He woke his dad up. Not good. Those are the things I don’t like about summer vacation. No regard for the “working folk.” Well, he’s in trouble when he wakes up. LOL. I just might take a sledgehammer to that thing!

      Have a great one!

It’s funny how different the perspective is between parents and kids. I’m sure my mom thought the same things you are, and we were thinking of nothing but NO SCHOOL NO SCHOOL YAYYYY!!!
