How to Survive Life in the Suburbs

You Can’t Do That In The Suburbs

in Everyday on 10/23/15

Phoenix, Arizona, USA

It’s pretty easy to get along with your neighbours in the Suburbs. A little common courtesy, a couple of friendly nods and how do ya’s go a long way!  Basically, manners people.
Sadly, there appears to be a few people around here that didn’t get the message on how to thrive and be peaceful and happy in our sleepy little neighbourhood.  If you don’t want people to point at your house and wish you would move to other side of the tracks?? Here are a couple of tips for polite living in the Suburbs.

*It is not Okay to leave a 5 foot by 5 foot pile of manure, attracting stares and flies, on your front lawn for FIVE weeks. You may call it topsoil, but it smells like cow patties and looks like a mud pile. Darling, five weeks is pushing the standard is Suburbia. (PS your grass is now dead under that pile, that’s going to be attractive)

*If your grass has gone to seed, and you can’t see your dog on the back lawn anymore, you have waited too lawn to cut it.  Oh and when you do cut it, please don’t start it at 7am, k, thanks.

*Broken down and rusting out cars in the driveway can not be declared a hobby, they can be declared an eyesore.

*Same goes for the broken down, in need of paint, used to look like, a white picket fence . Rusty nails and collapsed fences don’t fly in the suburbs. (even though I kind of like them)

* I know this is Canada, but it scares me that you think it’s alright to leave your kids Hockey nets and all their equipment in the middle of the road.

*Did you notice your garage door is broken and hanging on by one hinge? No? I didn’t either but I feel like I should tell you the old lady across the street did. She tells me about it at least once a week.  Someone’s always watching.

*I hate taking out the garbage too, but if the raccoons tear it apart and your leftover ribs, apple cores and tampax are all over the road, it’s up to you to go clean it up…there ain’t no garbage fairy round here.

*Windows: Not just for looking out.  The suburbs may be more sprawling then the city but can you please remember that if you can see the street, then the people on the street can also see you!  Cover up the bootie baby.

*Last but certainly not least, if your dog poops it, you scoops it.

The best saying I’ve ever heard is You have to take care of yourself before you can take care of anyone else because if you give all of yourself away eventually you’ll have nothing for anyone

It is all so true, why can’t people figure it out on their own

Great tips! It’s a good thing to have a friendly relation with the neighbors and to look out for each other! I usually pick up my neighbor recycling container if I’m earlier out or collect the mail and water the plants if they are away.

Love it. I was going to add my problem. Please do not use my recycling bin for your stuff. Do I need to put up a camera to see who you are.

All so very true. After 3 yrs of picking weeds around our new house I am glad to say that we now have a lawn. Unfortunately our builder didn’t deem things needed to be finished off (the house too!). When he closed our file we got moving and now it’s done. I’ve also had a plumber in since the pipes froze every winter so new pipes have gone in (the originals were on the wrong side of the vapor barrier!). A heating expert has also been and discovered what’s wrong with my heating, it was freezing cold in winter, the heating won’t work if the pipes aren’t connected now will it. Strange but the builder and heating firm insisted all was well! The walls where my electrical outlets and central vac had ice, or were dripping water in winter, have also now been properly insulated. Winter should be fun this year and I won’t have to wear a ski suit inside – hopefully 🙂

Love it and so true! Just managed to see some bootie in a neighbours window this week – not the way I want to start my morning!
