How to Survive Life in the Suburbs

At Home In The LG Kitchen

in Family on 10/26/17

The meeting place, the homework station, the space for family meetings and celebrations.  The place we gather first thing in the morning and the last light we turn out at night.  The kitchen is truly the heart of the home and LG has taken great lengths to make sure everyone feels welcome when you walk into their space.
At a recent event introducing LG’s black stainless steel series, I was afforded the opportunity to meet both Celebrity Chuck Hughes and Interior Designer Jane Lockhart.  These charismatic personalities welcomed me into the LG Kitchen for a chat to talk about the appliances, how they fit seamlessly into your everyday life, new trends for 2018, and even a fabulous and easy recipe you can make today!

Up first was Chef Chuck Hughes who was ready to boast about his love of the  LG Kitchen and show me a few tricks of the trade.  I also had more than a few questions for him.

Here are the highlights of my interview with this energetic and charismatic chef.

*How do you use the LG products to make your life easier in the kitchen?
One of my favourite details in this LG line is part of the refrigerator.  The new black stainless steel fridge with the see-through door is kind of magical.  With LG’s InstaView™ technology, all you need to do is knock twice on the tinted glass InstaView™ Door-in-Door® panel to see inside. This is great for families with young children as they can choose their drinks or snacks without standing in front of an open door.  PS The Probake convection on the oven is insane.
*What is your favourite comfort food or dinner to prepare for your family?
Meatballs are my go to, the twist, they aren’t usually “meat” balls.  I most often use salmon when I whip up meatballs for my little family.  **His tip: when creating a quick dinner for your family, keep in mind you don’t have to be traditional.  Be brave, take a few chances and know it’s okay to make mistakes in the kitchen.
*Who is the person you most like to cook for?
I love to cook for my kids. I love to create healthy versions of things I know my son will love.  Some favourites include homemade mac and cheese and banana pancakes. So simple with just one banana and one egg, and it’s easy to sneak in some healthy stuff into either recipe. **Chef Chuck Hughes is truly passionate about cooking for his family.  His biggest inspiration comes from cooking for his children and with his work schedule, juggling his TV show and two restaurants keeping him so busy, one of his favourite things to do is cook for his kids.
*At what age do you think kids should start cooking?

I have two young boys, ages 1 and 4, and my 4-year-old is already involved in the kitchen.   The key is to get them involved and let them know it’s okay to make mistakes.  **He regularly takes his son to the market and allows him to choose what they will cook that evening.  One of their favourite things to cook together is omelettes.

Chef Chuck Hughes stressed that good food doesn’t have to be complicated. He demonstrated this by expertly and quickly whipping up a homemade mayonnaise right before my eyes.  In just a few steps, he combined one egg (brought to room temperature), approximately 1 cup of canola oil and voila, mayo!  He then added fresh chopped tarragon and garlic and created a most delicious dip.

Are you ready to embrace the new trends for 2018?  LG is and with a little forward thinking, you can be too.

Jane Lockhart tells us how your appliances and LG’s new lineup can seamlessly fit into your decor in the coming year.  Jane tells us 2018 will see a trend where we don’t have to worry about being all “matchy matchy.” What a relief!  If you are looking to slide a new LG appliance into your life or just update your current look, keep these savvy tips in mind:

*Uppers light.  Bottoms darker.  Upper cabinets can be lighter, while bottom cabinets are darker.
*Do you want to take the focus away from not so fabulous cabinets and let your gorgeous appliances shine through?  If they are LG appliances, you do! Try a definitive wall colour in the kitchen.  Perhaps a dark grey wall, or an accent wall with black and white so the cabinets aren’t the story anymore.
*The key to remember:  If you want to attract attention away from those cabinets from the 80s or even 90s, create contrast.
*Another way to attract attention away from trouble areas is with your backsplash. Stainless tile as a backsplash would be a very nice touch as it catches the light and helps to re-energize the space.

Jane tells us,” The black stainless LG appliances might best be described best as a kind of graphite black.  They are truly fingerprint resistant.  They will mix well with white cabinets, dark cabinets and all kinds of looks from modern to contemporary.  These black stainless LG appliances add value to any space.

Chef Hughes and Designer Jane have me thinking about my kitchen in a brand new way.  With a few tweaks to my current decor and a few touches to my current menu, it will be a much more beautiful space to live and eat.  Thanks LG for helping to make Canadian kitchens the heart of the home.

Beautiful display of appliances. I have a lot smaller LG fridge. I never thought of using salmon in my meatballs. Thanks for the tip.

I really like the instaviewdoor as you just tap twice to see what you have in the fridge without opening the door

Those LG appliances are so gorgeous as is the beautiful kitchen. I love to cook and bake so I spend hours in my kitchen and it’s so important to me to have appliances that look and work great.I look for appliances big or small that can help me get the job done to perfection.

The kitchen is where the heart is and you don’t realize that until it is not working properly. My element went on my stove and the crock pot every night is not cutting it.
