How to Survive Life in the Suburbs

So If I Wear A Size Large…

in Everyday on 08/28/17

This weekend I took my girls to the mall in an attempt to do a one stop back to school shopping trip. Pft. Yah, that didn’t work out.  Two teens and one Mama all agreeing on clothes that are appropriate for back to school and that won’t break the bank?  Well, that my friends is a post for another day.

Today I need to rant about this:

When I went shopping what I did find was a cute little shirt for me.  Kind of like this one!

A simple little while number with 3/4 sleeves and buttons up the front.  My problem.  I barely fit into the size large.  Barely!  Now here is the thing. I think I’m a pretty average Mama.  A bit on the tall side, but average.  I’m 5 ft 9” and weigh..well, none of your business what I weigh! (but the airlines aren’t asking me to step on a scale before I’m allowed on a plane. Average.)

So here is my question to you.  If this average Canadian Mama is barely squeezing her bod with teeny boobs into a LARGE size shirt, what on earth are the women who are just a wee bit bigger than me, or with big boobs wearing?  What the hell is going on?  How did we as women come to accept this as normal!

Imagine if a clothing line was created where a medium size woman could fit into a medium size shirt.  If the next size up was called Regular and the third size was deemed Normal?  Sigh.  Those clothing designers aren’t making it any easier to survive life in the suburbs.

Every brand seems to be different. Sometimes I’m a small, others a large. I don’t get it. But the social pressure to be “small” is very strong.

Don’t even get me started on sizing! Different brands, stores, styles; they all fit differently. I hate having to try every single thing on before buying to be sure it fits.

Body shaming is so huge and more and more prevalent these days which is really sad to see. I’ve been so hard on myself after having my two children so some days I just let go and tell myself it will all work out and in the mean time thank goodness for leggings and cute tunics because our bodies are meant to be loved. Thanks for the chance to win, I would love clothes for teaching and back to school also for my son (preschool). Twitter fan@plumerea

Women have different body shapes even if they were a large or x-large size and also depends on the maker of the clothing item.

this is why I have to try on items at the store instead of ordering online.

This is why I can’t shop for clothes online. I need to try them on first.

Sizing is all over the map these days! I used to be able to trust that an item was properly sized and just pick up something off the rack, without having to try it on. Now, I try everything on, unless I want to guarantee a return trip to the store to exchange/refund. Grrrrrrr. >:(

I find that it depends were you shop, Suzy Sheer tops are made really small and I have to go to large! Cleo top size medium is big on me.

All the clothes today that I used to wear are all smaller. I swear I used to be a L-XL now it seems I am a 1-X I think it is because for instance Under Armour which I think is silly you have to go a size up nothing like making a bigger lady feeling even bigger eh?? SO DISCOURAGED THIS MOMMA!!

I hear ya. I wear a 30-32 size in pants, and can never find my size. In dress shirts I am 14.5-15 and it’s hard to find my size in these as well.
