How to Survive Life in the Suburbs

Forty-Six Things

in Everyday on 05/23/17

Forty-six.  For years shy of 50?  Yes, today is my Birthday and this is what 46 looks like.  So how does a blogger celebrate?  By oversharing of course!

This year I’m laying it all out there for the world to see; my dreams, my truths, my pride and joy, and even some of my deepest and darkest fears.

Here we go…. 46 crazy, wonderful, things about me.

  1. I am the Mother of 2 teen girls – and it is tiring.  Amazing, but – kind of exhausting stuff.
  2. I’ve been married for 20 years!  Hello.  How awesome is that?
  3. Our house is home to a cat. (It took my girls 7 years to talk me into getting that creature of the night.)
  4. And a dog.  The Great Dane pup now weighs almost 190 lbs and he’s pretty sure he’s a lap dog.
  5. I am Canadian! (and proud of it)
  6. I met my Husband while on Spring Break in Cancun, as one does.
  7. I’m addicted to travel and a complete hotel snob.  I own that.
  8. I wish we only had two seasons; Summer and Fall.
  9. I’m 5’9″ 1/2  Yup, I’m that tall girl.
  10. I’ve been blogging for 8 years and am so grateful for the gifts this career path has brought my way.
  11. I love when my house is full of people, but hate cleaning up so they can come over.
  12. I am truly directionally challenged.  (and forever thankful my GPS hasn’t directed me into a lake)
  13. Ultimate date night?  Dinner of appetizers, a blank sheet of paper, travel books, and time spent planning that next vacation.
  14. I can drive a standard like a bad ass.
  15. I hate horror movies.
  16. Do you believe in ghosts?  I do.
  17. Can’t get enough of romantic flicks with the perfect happy ending.
  18. I  love my iPhone,  What?  That’s normal.
  19. When I’m in my car, I often yell at other drivers who are bothering me.  Again, totally normal.
  20. I live in fear of the Dentist.  True, hand shaking, sweat inducing, stomach churning fear.
  21. I know Coca Cola is bad for me, but love it anyway.
  22. I believe in the power of love.
  23. Popcorn is my favourite meal.  Yes, I said meal.
  24. I think spiders are the work of the devil.  Shiver.  They just fall from the sky!
  25. Migraines are my worst enemy.
  26. I don’t believe in petty gossip.
  27. I understand the struggle between work and family- even though I work from home.
  28. I believe in happy endings.
  29. The state of the world…terrifies me.
  30. I thank God for my Sister everyday.
  31. I hope I’ve taught my girls to dream big, work hard, and believe in themselves.
  32. I don’t trust easily.
  33. My family and my friends….they are my everything.
  34. I want my girls and all of their friends to know, they are always welcome at our house.  Our doors are always open, we will always be a soft place to fall.
  35. My husband makes me proud every day.
  36. My girls leave me in awe with their kindness, their beauty and their determination to succeed.
  37. I will forever be thankful to my Parents for the example they have set and the life they have given me.
  38. I’m blessed to have in-laws I adore.
  39. I truly feel there are not enough hours in the day.
  40. My happiest childhood memories are at the cottage with my family and hope I’m creating those “warm fuzzy” memories for my girls.
  41. My first job was working as a server in a banquet hall.
  42. I believe if everyone was a little kinder, the world would be a better place.
  43. There’s no such thing as too much bacon.
  44. I don’t like brussel sprouts and no, you can’t convince me they are worth another try.
  45. I think we all need to start celebrating more things with champagne.
  46. I am a planner.  I love lists, calendars and countdowns.

Whew.  Is it time for cake now?

My wish for this next year?  Happiness and health for all I love, new adventures for my family and friends, a few new places checked off that travel bucket list, and of course countless more reasons to raise that glass of champagne!

Happy belated birthday! It’s amazing that you wrote such a positive post about getting older. Most women are not thrilled with the thought of growing older. I am 51 and had a tough time with it myself until I realized that aging is a privilege that many don’t get. We should celebrate making it to each and every birthday as we are very lucky when we do! ☺
