How to Survive Life in the Suburbs

On Mud & Dogs & Bubble Baths Gone Wrong – $83 Giveaway

in Everyday, Lifestyle on 04/15/16

**The following giveaway is open to Canada Only.

SwifferThe mud and dirt!

Spring has finally arrived and with it comes the dirt, the mud, the mess!  Finally the kiddos are getting outside more, playing on the trampoline and volleyball in the backyard, and bringing the lovely outdoors in.  I’m all for the rough and tumble play, but I will admit I wish when the little people came to visit, or when they took my pup for a run, they would leave the mess outside!  You see; muddy play outside is one of the things my dog loves the best and you have not seen a true mess until you have seen a 170 pound puppy bounding through your house covered in mud!  Ugh.  Last week our Watson escaped from his “bubble bath” that he clearly was not enjoying, and was gleefully playing a game of “keep away” in the kitchen, front hall and family room.  Fur was flying.  Teens were screaming.  My temper was rising.  Mud was everywhere.  Deep.  Breath.

What helps me stop my “head shaking’ as the Great Dane pup comes inside with mud on his feet for the 20th time in one day, or laugh it off when seven little people troop through my house covered in fresh cut grass, dust and dirt?  What helps me say “Go for it” when the girls want to re-enact that scene from the bath that went very very wrong? Swiffer!  With the help of Swiffer, parents like me can say “Yes to the Mess!” and embrace life’s little messes because we’re able to get a really thorough clean in minutes. The easy clean-up process allows children the opportunity to make a mess and explore a life rich in creativity.  (and I no longer worry when Watson the Blue Great Dane charges through the house leaving massive muddy prints as he goes)  Clean up is a snap!

Creating, exploring, making a mess.  It’s just part of growing up and part of the experience of learning.  It’s an incredible experience to see your child exploring, learning, creating something without any reservations; unfortunately, this is a rare sight for most. According to the second annual Swiffer Cleaning Index, the majority (70 per cent) of parents feel that letting kids make a mess helps encourage their creativity, however many (65 per cent) have said “no” to their kids’ request because of the mess it will make.

Screen Shot 2016-04-11 at 11.28.49 AMThe belief that messes are a part of a child’s development is increasing with the generations. Seventy-five per cent of millennials think that letting kids make messes encourages their creativity- this is in comparison to the 62 per cent of Boomer parents.

A mess can be a great learning opportunity, in so many ways. Nearly all parents (97 per cent) agree that young children learn a lot from cleaning up a mess.  And there’s no easier way to get your kids involved then with Swiffer!

There are several celebrities who vouch for the creative process. Actress Sarah Michelle Gellar recently hosted a Swiffer event in New York City where she encouraged parents to say “Yes to the Mess” in an effort to foster children’s creativity and independence.  As your child grows up you’ll never wonder “what could have been” when it comes to the creativity they express, as long as you’re providing a warm and welcoming environment.

This month I have some coupons to share.  Did you know you can find Swiffer coupons at P&Geveryday.ca You can also find everything else you need to know about Swiffer by checking them out on their website or following them on twitter.
