True Confessions About Dog Food? Oh Yes She Did!

Um what did she just ask me? Admittedly, it had been a long week, but I was fairly certain I had heard my Mom correctly. My parents, up from Florida to visit and celebrate the birth of my SassySis’s newest addition, had been staying with me for a week. We were prepping our dinner for the night and had just fed the dog. At this point my sweet Mama asked me a question that stopped me in my tracks.

“Did you try Watson’s food to make sure it’s good for him?”
Um. do you mean did I research it, ask the breeder, read the back of the bag? Yes, I did all of those things.
“No honey, when we had Sandy I tried a piece of her food to make sure it tasted good too. That’s all the dogs get to eat, you want to make sure they will like it.”

Cue the disbelief? Is this what one is supposed to do? OMG. So sweet, but so. NO. I guess it’s decided. I am not as good a pet Mama as my Mother because I did not sample my Dog’s food to see if it was tasty. Even though all the ingredients say I probably could.

Pass the wine.

    1. LOL… that’s funny. I figure… they eat the garbage when we are not looking so…. clearly they don’t have the same taste pallet as us??? If they gobble it down, there’s evidence they like it! 🙂

    2. Funny! I am guilty when I was a child of trying my dogs milkbones. Yeah, they didn’t taste too good to me!

    4. I would never have thought to have tried the food. Don’t feel so bad but YES, pass the wine!

    5. I have to toast to your mom being awesome ! Kudos!!! I think she should probably get mother of the pets year award or something! I agree that I could not eat dog or cat food without gagging.

I don’t have pets, but even if I did, I wouldn’t try their food (I didn’t try baby food either… and was shamed for it by my Mom…) But, one of my friends works in the quality lab of one of the big cats (and dogs?) food makers and was surprised to find out that the ingredients are very good, natural, often organic and better than you can sometimes find in human food. So, I guess, there will be no harm to those who wants to make sure… 🙂

      • I recognize every ingredient on the back of my dog food bag. I can’t say the same for every morsel of food I put in my own mouth 🙂

    9. I didn’t taste my pets food either. It’s expensive brand do to allergies, they seem to gobble it up. I’ll pass on the kibble snacking.

      • Oh those food allergies in pets do jack up the pet food prices don’t they?? My pup is allergic to chicken!

    11. I’ll drink to that! What a caring thing for your mum to do but I wouldn’t ever dream of doing that myself 🙂

    12. Lol my dogs very fussy and the food he has right now he loves . So I assume it tastes good to him.
