How to Survive Life in the Suburbs

On Sleepless Nights, Lukewarm Coffee And Finding Joy

in Uncategorized on 04/09/15

Coffee

When it’s cold and grey out.  When the kids have nagging coughs, and new complaints about teachers and homework.  When there are endless carpools and a ridiculous number of obligations to attend to, and my insomnia is back, it’s not always easy to feel joyful.  Actually, it’s all to easy to slip into a state of tired.  A place of quiet routine that has you living by the calendar, hanging on by your fingernails until the next vacation.  This is not my happy place, and not how I want to spend my days.  So today, a reality check, a small list of blessings, reasons to be joyful, to smile.  A tiny reminder to be thankful for the clutter and the chaos because one day not long from now this house will be quiet and still, and I will look back in awe in how I did it all…..

Today I will be thankful for the carpool that helps me get my kiddo across the city three times a week.

I will laugh, instead of cry, when my 100 lb. puppy tracks mud all over my hardwood floor.

Tonight I will skip cooking dinner, and be thankful for a good old fashioned pizza night.

I will not drive myself crazy trying to figure out how to be at a Dance Competition and a Cheer Competition at the same time this weekend, I will forgive myself and just do the best I can.  There will be more competitions!

I will remember that these crazy days of parenting are fleeting, a short blip on the radar of life, and try and soak up every moment with my girls.

Today I will be thankful for a lukewarm coffee and dreamy conversation with my adoring Hubby.  I am blessed.

I will look forward to vacations on the horizon and hazy summer days, but not too much….because I need to remember to be thankful for today too.

Hope you can all find your reason to be thankful today….

It’s hard to keep it together and stay positive at the same time. Honestly when I need to lose it I go into the bathroom, turn on the shower and scream into a pillow; so you’re way better than me.

So often we forget to be thankful for the little things in life, like someone holding the door for you. It’s these simple little things that make me smile and feel grateful to be a part of this life. When I can smile at a young child being pushed around the store either the child or the mum will smile back. My 7 are all adults now and have their own lives to live, they seem to be making a pretty good job of it too. When you have children they keep you fit and healthy – you have to do so much chasing after them, that you do keep fit. Enjoy it whilst you can, in no time at all they grow wings and fly off to start their own lives on their own.

Leaving the house behind and headed to Ontario cottage country. 🌲☀️
The hubby and I are planning a 7 night lakeside escape just a few hours from home, and honestly, this is where the girl math really starts mathing. After an expensive year, I’m extra grateful for our HomeExchange membership — and I love browsing all the gorgeous lakefront homes nearby!

Do you have a favourite town or lake in cottage country? Tell me!!
