Can you feel it? The air feels a little fresher, the breeze has a new crispness, the sun is shining a little brighter. I don’t want to jinx it; but is it possible that Spring has finally arrived? Yesterday I threw caution to the wind, opened up my windows, blew away the cobwebs and yes, even put away the heavy winter coats! It’s time to banish winter, and usher in a new beautiful season! A little bit of sprucing up outside is a given. Cleaning up the broken branches, picking out planters for the summer make a big difference for the feel of your home. This year I’m also doing a little beautifying inside too! I’m bringing the outside in with a few flowers, adding new bright throw pillows to my kinda drab couch and adding some fun new dishes to my kitchen. My new find? The Heritage Collection by Denby.
A modern twist on some of the very best classics, the Heritage Collection offers you the opportunity to pick part of the collection you like or bits and pieces from all! You can build on your existing Denby Collections or start a brand new one! Denby has just revealed a brand new look, so now is the perfect time to take another look at the timeless pieces of their collections.
I have long been a fan of all things Denby, it is simply flawless. With a little research I found there were some things about this line of products I didn’t know!
- All the Denby pieces are microwave, dishwasher and freezer safe. Derby has over 5000 glazes!
- Each Denby piece is unique. It passes through 25 pairs of hands before reaching yours, including a test to make it as comfortable as possible to hold.
- Now available in XXL. Some of our ranges now feature ‘Gourmet’ pieces – inspired by modern restaurants, they are extra large for dramatic effect.
Denby was generous enough to send me this beautiful large Mixing Bowl, versatile Storage Jar and sweet Rectangle Plate from the Heritage Fountain Collection to add to my kitchen.
I adore the bright, clean, airy blues and contemporary feel of this collection, and it was just begging to be shown off! This of course was the perfect excuse to have couple of girlfriends over for an old fashioned chat and some scrumptious snacks. On the menu; all the fruits the upcoming season has to offer, lots of coffee and my favourite Lemon Loaf.
Here’s the easy and delish recipe I’ve been using for years now;
Lemon Loaf
Ingredients:
3 extra large eggs
12 TBSP unsalted butter, softened
1/4 cup buttermilk
1 cup flour
1/2 cup pastry flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp almond extract
3/4 cup sugar
1 TBSP Grated Lemon Zest
Glaze:
3 1/2 TBSP Fresh Lemon Juice
2 cups powdered sugar
Directions:
In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, vanilla extract, and buttermilk. Set aside. Mix together the flours, salt, baking powder, and sugar til combined. In a large mixing bowl add 6 TBSP of softened butter, half of the dry ingredients and half of the egg mixture. Slowly begin beating and beat til just combined, 30 seconds. Repeat the process by adding the remaining 6 TBSP of softened butter the remaining egg mixture and the rest of the dry ingredients. Finish with the lemon zest and stir with a wooden spoon until all is incorporated.
Pour batter into a greased loaf pan and bake at 350 for 30 minutes uncovered and 30 minutes covered with foil.
Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, bring the sugar and lemon juice to a boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Add the powdered sugar and mix well. Once the bread is done and cool to the touch drizzle the glaze all over the bread.
My coffee with girlfriends celebrating the arrival of Spring was a great success, and a wee bit sweeter enjoyed with my new Heritage Collection plate and bowl. My fresh ground coffee will stay fresh and stylishly dressed, in the beautiful Heritage Collection Storage Container!
