How to Survive Life in the Suburbs

Oh Baby It’s Cold Outside

in Uncategorized on 02/16/15

Mother Nature is at it again.  She’s showing her power with ridiculously cold weather, blasting us with freezing temperatures, and has me once again asking why on earth I live somewhere where the cold hurts my face!

ColdFace

As I sit here tucked under my favourite cashmere blanket watching my girls playing with our giant Great Dane pup, the fire is loudly crackling, giving our home a bit of a Norman Rockwell flare.  I’m reminded of how truly blessed we are.  We are a healthy family of four, our fridge is stuffed full, our furnace keeps cranking away to keep us warm.  Life is more than okay.

As cold weather warnings are issued, people are told to stay indoors, seek shelter, cover up and stay warm; yet I know this simply is not that easy for everyone in my community and beyond.  So how do we help?  Today we made a donation towards the pet shelter.  Pets need to keep warm too.  Tomorrow we will gather up some non-perishable foods and buy some sleeping bags to take to our local Salvation Army.  It’s a small thing, but I hope a couple of small gestures will make a big difference on one of these very cold nights still to come this winter.

Want to help?  Consider dropping off donations of non-perishable foods, blankets, sleeping bags, or warm clothing to one of the following locations in London Ontario:

  • Men’s Mission and Rehabilitation Centre, 459 York Street
  • The Salvation Army Centre of Hope, 281 Wellington Street
  • Unity Project, 717 Dundas Street
  • London Humane Society, 624 Clarke Road, London
With a quick google search, similar agencies can be found in your neck of the woods.  Hope you have a chance to pay it forward in some small way this winter.

FYI Safe Space is a great organization in London, ON that would greatly appreciate donations geared towards women! I don’t live there anymore but when I did, I would drop things off regularly.

I would bring the kids coats that they have out grown to their school so many kids not having warm coats. they are expensive ones and people say why dont you put them in a consignment store. I just cant do that I would rather give them to people that truly need them then make money off of selling them.

It’s been unbelievable, and no sign of reprieve for at least 2 weeks. I’m still trying to wrap my brain around this “family day”.. in the middle of freaking February!

      Ugh…

I do love the new trend of mittens/scarves around trees for those that may need.. sometimes people are too proud or too ashamed to say “i can’t afford mittens”.

Oh I love that trend too! Such an easy way to pay it forward 🙂
