How to Survive Life in the Suburbs

Emergency Landing ~ WW

in Family, Travel on 01/06/15

After a week away in Florida, we began our approach into the Toronto Pearson International Airport.  As we neared our destination, the Pilot came over the loud speaker to announce the fasten seat belt sign had been illuminated, all items were to be securely stowed and as we approached the runway we would be seeing Emergency Vehicles awaiting our arrival.  WHAT??? Why?  Deep breath.

Our hydraulic system was not working the way it should.  We were able to land, but not steer or taxi?  At least we think that’s what we heard.  All I heard was keep your ass in your seat.  Emergency crews were on stand by.  I pretended to be calm.

This is NOT what you want to see as you glide onto the runway…

God bless that pilot who landed us safely and quickly.  Applause all around as we landed, big deep shakey breaths.  Shiver.  We then sat and waited for our tow into the terminal.   A very slow tow with our fire crew acting as escort.

Then we waited for our connecting flight.

Family travel, never a dull moment.

Yes that would have scared us all for sure. Never had a moment like that and I hope we never will. Glad you are all safe.

I’m very much hoping we have now had our one big flight scare. That was enough for me!

How did you ever manage to remain calm? That had to be scary. So glad that the pilot took good care of you.

The only way I managed to pretend to stay calm, was that my kids were sitting there across the aisle looking at me. I had to reassure them we were going to be just fine. Thank goodness we were!

yeah, I probably would’ve had a slight stroke, heart attack. I have a huge HUGE fear of flying, that being said I would still love to go somewhere exotic and amazing!

I’m so glad everything worked out just fine! Nice to have you back!!

      • Stephanie says

        January 12, 2015 at 1:02 pm

I’m not a terrible flyer, but it’s not my favourite thing to do. It helps when you are headed somewhere lovely. Hope you get to take off somewhere exotic soon!

Argh, that’s something you never want to hear or experience. It can be so hard to keep your cool in situations like that, right? It’s easier, of course, when our children are with us. Glad all was okay, my friend!

        January 12, 2015 at 1:00 pm

It’s true that I am a much better flyer when my kids are with me. I wonder why that is? Strange right! Thanks for the kind words!

The main thing is everything turned out good, I have never been on a plane, but if I heard that I would of been shitting bricks..lol

        January 12, 2015 at 12:59 pm

You’re right, we are all fine and that’s all that matters! Well that, and that my kids promise they are okay to fly again. I’d hate to think this ruined them for travel 🙂
