How to Survive Life in the Suburbs

Why Storms Suck

in Everyday on 09/12/13

We had a crazy flash storm here in South-Western Ontario last night.  It threw high winds at us, hail the size of quarters, and had all the weather channels screaming “Tornado watch! Tornado watch!”.  I was not a fan.  Now I am aware I really have nothing to complain about.  Except for a cancelled dance class and some really wet clothes  acquired by running back and forth from the car,  we escaped this latest storm unscathed, but I still stand my ground, storms suck. Here’s why:

*Every time a storm blows through I get a wicked headache.  Headaches suck worse than storms.

*Lightening might be cool from afar but when those strikes start taking out trees and hitting the ground around you, that is just super scary.

*Streets flood.  We all know this can get ugly and dangerous!

*We often lose power.  Sure that might be “romantic” for a few minutes, but then the kids get bored and you have to remember where you put the puzzles and the board games.  Then when the kids finally get to bed, you have to entertain your Hubby.  Heaven knows he can’t entertain himself.

*Driving in the rain sucks.   Driving in a rain storms is white knuckle driving, and it is exhausting.

*Severe rain storms lead to Tornado warnings.  Tornados are terrifying.  Nobody wants to play the “let’s all go sleep in the basement” game!

So all this to say I am not a fan of storms.  I don’t want to think about them, I don’t want talk about them anymore and I certainly don’t want to write about them, so instead let’s all enjoy the picture of this super cute kitty!  We should get one yes?  Somehow I turned my hatred of storms into an argument for a new cat.  Go ahead, be impressed.

Please say yes, I think my cat Phineas needs a little munchkin kitty friend!

No really, that’s what they are called and they are so cute it almost hurts.

So has the argument for a new kitty been won yet 🙂

There is still heavy discussion regarding kitty number two! The problem not so much should we get a kitty, but should we get another pet. Cats and dogs are both being discussed now! 🙂

I’m fine with rain if it’s calm, even if it’s set in rain, but throw in the lightning, thunder and wind and I’m not ok with it at all.

I don’t mind the calm rain either. It can actually be kind of peaceful. But it’s that howling wind, tornado”y” kind of storm stuff that freaks me out!

If I was faced with that kitten there would be no way I could say no…and I’m not even a pet person!

I think this is part of the problem with this kitten, it’s so damn cute!

What a cutie! I would say yes you need a new kitty! The storm missed us in Grand Bend, but we did have to call a friend in London to make sure our condo was okay. I always hate when they say the tornado word.

I was lovely little puddy cat!

Living in Victoria we get some doozy wind and rain storms but lightning and thunder are very rare! …and no tornadoes “yet” But we do have the constant threat of earthquake on the other hand.

Isn’t that kitty adorable? I just can’t stop thinking about him!
As for weather? Earthquakes are truly terrifying too! Stay safe my friend.

I’m not a fan of storms either. Do enjoy watching the lighting showers when I’m in Florida.
I say yes to the kitty!

We had lightening with this last storm the likes of which I have never seen! It was terrifying! Kind of makes the snow we get up here seem tame 🙂

Yes, it all sounds familiar. Although, call me weird, but the initial phases are kind of exciting. I like the heavy rain if I’m in the comfort of my home watching it from the screened in porch. But when the lightning starts, it’s back inside where my husband begins to pray that the electricity doesn’t go out. (You thought I was going to say that he prays that it does go out, right? 🙂 )

Anyway, that’s life and we will deal with it again and again.

I love your pretty kitty. By the way, my dogs sorta looses it during the storm. How about the kitty?

“Heaven knows he can’t entertain himself” Good one!

Yes, you should definitely get a kitten; you don’t want Phineas to be lonely. If you’re taking a vote, you’ve got mine 😉

Thanks for the vote that was Pro Kitty. I need all the support I can get.
PS I think you were the only one who caught my joke that my Hubby was not able to entertain himself, so thanks for that too!
