How to Survive Life in the Suburbs

It’s Milk. Unleashed!

in Uncategorized on 08/15/13

I keep thinking at some point soon life has got to slow down!  How can this fast past go, go, go lifestyle keep going 12 months of the year? There has to be a point where the hectic pace of life slows down and a state of near boredom sets in right?  Wrong.  With a Hubby who works a ridiculous number of hours and two girls in school, camps and sports life just keeps speeding along. Add vacation time in there and we are one busy family.  Just like the rest of the world!  This is why when I was introduced to Shelf Safe Milk, part of the Milk Unleashed program, I thought, why not?  Let’s see what this product is really all about! I can always use extra help when it comes to healthy snacks and drinks for my kids, especially when we are on the go!

So what is this product?

MilkFact

What does it look like and how is it different then other milk products?

MilkUnleashedpacks_1

Shelf safe milk is real Grade A milk that doesn’t require refrigeration until it’s opened (no preservatives added).  Single-serving cartons can be stored in the cupboard for up to six months without refrigeration.  Perfect to keep on hand at the cottage so you don’t run out of milk all summer!

It’s a convenient and healthy way to get the nutrition from calcium-rich milk on car trips, while camping and at the park.  Freeze a few cartons the night before and toss into a sports bag, picnic basket or cooler, and it will be the right temperature when you’re ready to enjoy it.  If your family doesn’t drink it all during the trip…just take it home and put it back in the cupboard.

Did my kids like it?

Yup.  They did say it tasted a little different, but when really cold, or added to cooking they didn’t even notice a difference from our regular milk purchase.

Is this a new product?

Not so much!

MilkUnleashedFact

Did we really have a use for this milk product?

Absolutely! I sent my youngest with a Tetra Pak to Dance Camp.  Just chilled and popped it in her lunch box.  Excellent timing as this unprepared Mama did not have many healthy lunch supplies on hand!

I also took some Shelf Safe Milk along on a recent family trip to Blue Mountain.  We had a hotel room with a full kitchen.  By thinking ahead and throwing some milk into my grocery bag with some pasta I was able to create a quick lunch for my kiddos thanks to this safe Grade A milk!  It was the perfect solution!

So where can you find  shelf safe milk?

In stores it seems most prefer to take advantage of the fact that  this product doesn’t need refrigeration and put it on a shelf. Take a peek near the baking goods, juices, baby/toddler milk, or in the cereal and canned and powered milk sections.

You can also find out all you need to know by following Milk Unleashed on twitter and Facebook!

So what do you think?  Would you give this milk a  try?  Can you see yourself keeping some on hand “just in case” or add it to school lunches or picnics?

We don’t drink a lot of dairy milk in my house, but I did when I was a child. It would have been so handy to have shelf-safe milk that I could pack in my lunches, etc.

That’s a great idea to add it to your cooking – you can keep it in your pantry and always have it on hand!

We vacationed in Mexico for months at a time and always used shelf-safe milk. Not only is it tasty when chilled, but we always knew it was safe to drink. Great to have on hand, especially when going to the cottage.

I wasn’t so sure about the idea of shelf-safe milk but after reading this, I might just have to give it a try after all. Thanks!

I feel like I spend about 1/3 of my life in the grocery store and really can’t believe this never caught my eye. Will have to pick some up the next time I’m out just to give it a try. I love the idea of having back up milk drink boxes for those days I too am not prepared for school lunches!

HA! I feel like I spend more than 1/3 of my life in the grocery store too. Does that make you feel better? “) Have a peek for Shelf Milk in the baby section or/and the baking aisle. Since it doesn’t have to be refrigerated it is often placed in those aisles instead.

As a mom of two young boys who LOVE milk, I could really use this. Thanks so much for letting me know about it!

I’ve tried the shelf safe milk and have to say I agree with your gals – it tastes different. I couldn’t get around that taste to consume it on it’s own, BUT I think it would be wonderful to have on hand for baking emergencies, etc..

Having some on hand as back up for those baking emergencies is a brilliant idea! (I actually just used some as I threw together a lemon loaf!) Yum!

Funny how Europe seems to be ahead of the curve so often. We used to have stuff similar to this [shelf safe] when I was in Italy as a kid! Love that we have it here now- so convenient, especially for weekend trips! 🙂

Amazing right!! Now we all need to pack up and head to Europe and see where we can find shelf safe milk! 🙂

For now I will have to settle for throwing some in the car when we head up to the cottage on the weekend!

We like to keep some of it on hand just in case we run out or in case of emergency.

10 years ago we had a HUGE power outage up here. I sure would have like to have had some of this Shelf Safe milk on hand for those powerless days.

I had never heard of shelf safe milk until recently from seeing all you bloggers talking about it, may have to give it a try. As to life slowing down, I feel the same way, certainly feels like it never will.

It really is fabulous to have some around! If you give it a try I hope you will pop back and tell me what you think 🙂
