How to Survive Life in the Suburbs

I Kicked That Malls Ass!

in Uncategorized on 12/16/09

By 8am I had my war gear on.

Jeans, T-Shirt, Hoodie and comfortable shoes. (yes comfort was needed this time)

Dropped the kids at school and had my butt parked in front of my prey.

The biggest mall in town.

I had my weapons…my list of “must get gifts”, and my VISA.

In under 3 hours I plowed through a list of gifts for the girls, my 2 nieces, 2 nephews, my Grandmother, my Mother, my Sister and even polished off the odds and ends for my dearest Hubby. Oh and did I mention that I also managed to pick up a sweet winter coat and gloves for little ole me!

Store by store I took them all down one by one.

Feeling a little more at peace, a tad more victorious with each zip ding of the credit card machine.

Retail therapy.

Only about 12 more gifts to buy with just under 8 more shopping days left.
It can be done.
Sigh.

Tis the season my friends, tis the season.

I just can’t take the Mall this time of year……it’s total madness….you are a brave one!

I wish I could claim victory against the mall. I have ordered online, gone to a few stores here and there, but have put the mall off until the last minute. Which is, I guess, right now. I’m planning to go tomorrow AM, bright and early. I say it every year…”I’ll start early next year” It doesn’t happen. Good for you, and I hope you’ve finished up by now.

What is it about swiping a card that makes you feel so much better…even if it isn’t for you. Dangerous, that is what it is!

We could so shop together. I do a great amount from chair also. Laptop in lap, wine in hand. I think I’m done – oh, except one needs jeans and another need a movie. Easy.

      That is great.

I thought I was ahead of the game when I started picking up the kids “big” presents in August – disgusting I know. Then I took a contract job in mid October that has had we working 6-7 13 hour days a week. I guess I am lucky I got what I did early done or I would be in really big trouble!

I’m not even going to tell you how much I still need to do, because it would punch unfortunate holes in my cloud of denial.

I spent three hours at the mall yesterday and achieved nothing but traumatizing my one-year-old by taking him to see Santa, and escorting my 5-year-old to every store in the mall looking for a gift to buy her dad. Turns out she’s even more indecisive than me.

      Productive, no?
