How to Survive Life in the Suburbs

Granny’s Day Out

in Uncategorized on 06/17/09

It is time to stop Grieving the loss of my beautiful SUV. (Can you hear sarcasm on a blog post?) Really thrilled that instead of driving a 7 seater monster I am currently the proud owner of a wee little sports car.
I have decided to embrace my sports car. Love my little mustang. Make lemonade my friends.
I also decided it was time for a visit with Grandma. Put those two together and you get a rather interesting Granny’s Day Out.

Grandma or GG (Great Grandma) as my girls call her, is in her 91st year.
I called her up this morning and asked her if she was feeling spontaneous.
She said she was up for anything!
I picked her up an hour later.
In this:

We cruised the city.
Horns honked at us.
Granny smiled.
Three twenty somethings pointed and grinned. Stared a little too long at us at the stop light.
“She is hot isn’t she?” I queried.
“Oh you are both so so hot” The young man yelled back.
Granny let go the loudest laugh I have heard in years. Apparently no one has called her hot for 50 years!

We circled the park.
Stopped for sustenance.
Drove past the landmarks.
Went out into the country.

Time to go home.
Granny had a long overdue birthday gift for me.
A lovely china cup and saucer that had been her grandmothers. AND…
a pair of jeans she picked out just for me.
They were a size 16.
I’m a size 8.
I did tell her I did not think they were going to fit.
She insisted I prove it.
Those “how to cook light” and “diet” books she gave me at Christmas must have worked!
At least I gave her a second giggle.

Hope when I’m 90 my Granddaughter comes and takes me out for a spin in the sunshine. I also hope that granddaughter has half as much fun as I did today.

Can I borrow your grandmother to take her out in my BMW – not as flash as yours, but she may help pull in the compliments from young gentlemen.

There’s life after the mini-van? And it’s a mustang? Ooohh! I can’t wait! What a great daughter to take your mom out–I bet she felt hip, cool, and soooo young (should would have probably felt younger if she was driving)LOL

      Hi ModernMom!

Lola’s back at last!! Many thanks for your message on previous post.

      Lovely post here as always!

btw still have terrible difficulty reaching your site – the ONLY one in fact! The link from my site doesn’t work at all (nor the Mom sites I tried as alternatives) and even googling your url invariably fails! Getting here now (Phew!!) has taken almost 10 minutes of retrying & retrying on Google!! Does anyone else have same difficulty?!!

Feel like have swum across the Atlantic to Canada!

Will be back again (assuming Google doesn’t fail me!)Have a great Thursday!

      xxLOL Nora & Lola:)

Great! What a day, huh? My Grandma rode a motorcyle with my gramps until they were in their 70s. I love these people!

I had to almost stop reading when I saw the Mustang mentioned. Envy tried to take over, but I suppressed it. I would LOVE to drive a mustang-a convertible is even better!! Moms know that a SUV or mini-van is essential, but a cool ride tops it!

What a fun day with your gram. I wish mine were alive to spend time with me. Enjoy it!\

Thanks for the sweet comment. I will be back! It’s hard to keep track of everyone though, isn’t it?

If you have not clicked to make the photo bigger, YOU MUST TRY IT!!! LMAO!!

Adorable beautiful mother!! You need to go out for a spin at least once a week this summer. Just fabulous.
