Goodbye Freedom – Hello Noise

P2100035 P2120030

Goodbye to that sweet silent cup of coffee in the morning. Sigh.

Goodbye to the untold hours I had to read, and comment on blogs.

Goodbye to my long uninterrupted showers. I will miss you.

Goodbye to lunch dates with adults, with cutlery and linen napkins.

Goodbye my precious manis and pedis. There is no time for you now.

Goodbye to gossipy uninterrupted phone chats!

Goodbye to the quiet.

School’s out for summer!!

HELLO to the noise.

Hello to “There is nothing to eat. I don’t want that She’s bothering me.”

Hello to “Can I have a play date. Please. Now? Please. Why not?”

Hello to pink paint on the deck, and marker on the table.

Hello to sticky melted popsicles running down fingers and dripping off chins.

Hello to rowdiness in the pool, giggles and screams of delight.

Hello to soccer games and grass stains.

Hello to sunscreen, sunburn and swimming by the hour.

Hello to falling off bikes and swings, bumps on the head, splinters in bare feet and Frisbees to the face. Umm. Yes, this is a home of summertime klutzes.

Hello to picnics outside, butterfly chasing and late nights under the stars.

Hello to sneaking in the occasional late night skinny dip!

Don’t hate me, but I do love these two months of “freedom”.

Cheers to all things summer!

  1. It’s funny how different the perspective is between parents and kids. I’m sure my mom thought the same things you are, and we were thinking of nothing but NO SCHOOL NO SCHOOL YAYYYY!!!

  2. It is a much crazier time, but I do love it.

I miss my down time, that’s for sure, but summer…ah. I LOVE summer.

My son spent 7 1/2 hours at the hockey rink yesterday (4 trips for me in the car) and then baseball under the lights last night (straight from hockey-another trip).

Then, can you believe he went on his stupid XBox until 1:00 in the morning. That thing has to go! He woke his dad up. Not good. Those are the things I don’t like about summer vacation. No regard for the “working folk.” Well, he’s in trouble when he wakes up. LOL. I just might take a sledgehammer to that thing!

    Have a great one!

  3. not a bad trade though…have a blast this summer. we are off to the waterfalls with teh boys to explore and play today!

  4. I love summer also, in spite of the fact that I feel like a referee the whole time. It is the best!

  5. First I felt sorry for you, but now, I’m thrilled for you!!!!

  6. late-night skinny dips? you’re an adventurous girl! 🙂

  7. You are right in all aspects! ENJOY!!!

  8. I love your perspective!

  9. aaaah… but the fun that’s to be had… lol

  10. There is just something wonderful about summer…the good and the bad, it is all GOOD. 🙂

  11. I am sure the quite time will be missed, but the summer months are oh so fun and a tad bit exhausting. Live it up and enjoy, but August, you will be ready for the manis and pedis and reading time again!

  12. Ah happy summer!!!!

  13. it will be a noisey summer but as my mom always did from when I could remember, soon as school was back she cried and didnt want the quiteness! lol You mommies are soo funny!

  14. Our perspective is so different from the kids. Hope you survive well. Focus on the skinny dipping and butterfly chasing. Separately of course.

  15. I don’t know how my poor Mom coped with the long summer breaks – there was four of us. Maybe that was a good thig though, as well all kept each other entertained!

  16. I so relate! I have moved from the comfort of my a/c and office on the couch to sitting on the back porch in the summer heat all day. Blegh.

  17. You guys have two months of summer too? Yes, the noise and the constant chaos happening with the kids at home which is why I set up activities for them to do but that only sustain peace and order for 2 hours at the most.

  18. I have been the worst blogger ever lately…thanks to summer. My kids have already been out for a month!!! It’s amazing how “free” time with kids becomes so hectic 🙂

  19. Yes to being present and enjoying ALL circumstances.

  20. I just happened upon you blog …I so get this! Too funny, too too sweet to!

  21. I have mixed feelings about school being out, because I am a teacher. I love having the time off, but I’m now realizing that with a toddler at home, going to work is something of a break.

  22. hehe, I love all the fun summer activities too- but the last 4 years have been “summer” because my boys weren’t in school yet and I am a SAHM. I am thinking how much I will miss them this fall when they start Pre-k… I don’t know what I’ll do with myself! =)

  23. Hehe…Enjoy the summer with the girls……..try to fit some time in for yourself if you can 🙂

    follow me 🙂

    S.

  24. I am totally with you. I love it as well. I love the break from the routine and getting to actually spend time with the kids rather than just being a chauffeur. Enjoy and I hope it doesn’t mean we’ll be hearing less from you.xo

  25. Summertime! Gotta love it!

  26. Have a great summer with the kiddos!!

  27. Those are the sweet memories of our youth… that’s why I love my mom so much, only when we’re older do we realize what we put our parents through! Now it’s being paid backwards! *grin*

  28. Hello to my schedule being just as busy. What happened…I thought summer meant lazy times. Oh well, enjoy your summer & all the fun things that go along with it. Woo hoo!

  30. Summer can be crazy, but you gotta love it!

  31. I love Summer too! I love having the kids home. However, here is to zero ER trips this holiday, as we are rather accident prone as well…cheers! 😉

  32. I LOVE summer too. I love staying in the Pj’s until noon (or later) if we want…going to bed a little later, playing outside until after dark…I just wish it was warmer where we live.

  33. its so cold here at the moment, Im so jealous you are on summer holidays.

  34. I’ve yet to experience a true summer break with my daughter. We’re still living under the looming specter of kindergarten starting in the fall.

Still we’re checking lots of those things off our own list. Most recently she fell off of her bike. Ouch!

  35. I love summer also, but forget what all the other time is like. I work 7:30 to 4 so I work during their school hours….no peace and quiet for me. LOL….just kidding, I do work those hours but my Lexi is 15…her friends are far more important than me any day of the year.

  36. What a happy post. Long live summer!

  37. Its funny, the summer holidays are starting over there, and our two-month-long vacation have already come to an end! Time flies, doesn’t it?

  38. Strange. I was looking forward to the kids going back so I could have time to myself but they are back today and I am so not ready!

  39. AH, yes, the lovely days and joys of summer… but… despite all that… I sure enjoy it much more than winter! I’m already stressed about the thought of evil winter returning! Gah!

  40. Big sigh. I want your life (when school is in!)

  41. OH MY! We are making an unexpected shift from Year-Round to traditional 10-month school calendar, so instead of 3 weeks in August, which are filled, I am now faced with the whole summer and feeling completely unprepared (although looking forward to it as well!)

Thanks for your comments on Single mom in the South!

  42. Enjoy the wonderful chaos of summer! I’m actually already kind of sad thinking of my little guy starting JK in the Fall – my baby’s growing up too fast:( Thanks for stopping by My Life as a Libra today & Happy Belated Canada to you too:)
