How to Survive Life in the Suburbs

The Elusive Date Night

in Everyday on 09/28/15

As I rocked my baby to sleep and coerced my cranky toddler back to bed, I used to soothe my tired soul by reminding myself that in just a few short years we would return to the land of the dating.  Hubby and I would get back out there living it up together.  It wouldn’t be like this forever.

Then my girls grew up a little, became better sleepers and then they went and got all “active” and “involved” on us.  Cheer, gymnastics, dance, volleyball, and piano lessons meant every damn night of the week …there was something.  Always something.  Oh well, say a prayer of thanks to the TV Gods for keeping us entertained.  Then once again reminded that one day soon Hubby and I would get back into that regular dating routine.

Fast forward to the Teen years.  The report from the suburbs, we haven’t slowed down one bit.  Sports still rule, dance is more intensive than ever.  We added a Great Dane Pup aka the third child to the mix, and now SassyHubby is working like a crazy man?  Well forget this!  We are not waiting anymore for the elusive date night to just drop into our laps.  Clearly, it just won’t happen.  Instead a new pact with my man; we shall carve out that precious time, take non-traditoinal date nights and make them into special events just for us.  Have to go grocery shopping and we really don’t want to?  First a stop for a quiet coffee and a chat at Starbucks.  It’s a Date.  We need some paint from Home Depot?  Not a problem!  Let’s grab that paint and snag some ice-cream to eat under the stars on the way home.  Insta-Date!  Have a wedding to go to?  Well clearly that party was just meant to be a big old date for us!  There’s a fair in town and we have to drop the kids off?  Guess who else is taking a spin on the ferris wheel and grabbing a deep fried mars bar?  We are!

It turns out this “Dating Scene” I’ve been craving, needing and thought I was missing?  It’s not so elusive after all.

All I had to do was reach out and grab it.

I crave date nights too, we don’t get them as often as we want but we get them and I value them so much

Yes, it might be difficult to find the time for a date night but you just have to carve it out somewhere since it really is important that parents have the chance to enjoy time together without the kids. 🙂

It’s so important to still date your partner. Eventually your kids are grown up and moving out and you want to still be in love with your partner, not find out that they are a stranger.

We are big on making date night happen! I love Home Depot dates (often coupled with Starbucks). And we got a wedding date in this weekend too 🙂

It’s so true, finding time with my Husband seems impossible right now. Maybe I need to start looking at it differently, because I do need to make sure we get some couple time or I’m going to cry!

It is so easy to put that couple time on the back burner! Hope you find a way to make some time for the two of you, it sure adds some joy to the day.
