How to Survive Life in the Suburbs

Surviving Thanksgiving In The Suburbs

in Family on 10/10/14

Thanksgiving is coming, or as I like to call it, the meal after which I will hate myself.  It all starts our fine with the cute new sweater and pinterest worthy appetizers ready to go.  Then sometime around 7:30pm, it ends in cold sweats and the need to unbutton my pants because I just had to have a “little” piece of pumpkin pie.

Thank goodness for family, four day weekends and oh yes stretchy pants; for how else would we ever survive Thanksgiving!  Want to know a little bit more about the real Thanksgiving in the Suburbs?  Here’s a wee Meme I created and filled out after an after dinner cocktail so you know it’s honest.  Feel free to cut and paste, then play along!  Happy Turkey Day!

Fresh Turkey or Frozen?

I buy a totally frozen, completely stuffed ready to go bird! Domestic Goddess y’all!

Thanksgiving comes but once a year, but how many Thanksgiving meals do you manage to squeeze in?

I always manage at least two, plus the leftovers!  One with my parents, one with SassyHubbys parents and then as many leftover meals as I can get my hands on.

What’s your favourite part of the Thanksgiving Feast?  (Be honest, no fuzzy family stuff)

I’m all about the gravy and what lies beneath.  Bring on the potatoes, the stuffing and maybe even a little turkey in there as long as it’s covered in piping hot gravy!

Team Pumpkin or Team Apple?

Seriously, always team Pumpkin Pie, with whipped cream please.

Picture taker or memory maker?

Going to waffle here and say I try so hard to be the memory maker…but I do adore snapping those pictures.  Hope I get some good pics this year!

Thanksgiving2013

…because there is nothing I love more than this family.

Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Here are all those questions for you if you want to play along!

I’m not big on turkey, although the family total is!

So here we go: frozen turkey. 1-2 dinners, depends where I spend Thanksgiving. All the yummy food! Team apple. Picture taker.

Fresh Turkey is best. We try to squeeze in two meals….ugh. I love the smell of the house when the turkey is cooking, I prefer pumpkin pie and I am the picture taker.

Happy Belated Thanksgiving, looks like you had a nice time by the pictures. We had to close our RV this Thanksgiving for the season so it was all work and no play. But we did have a nice turkey dinner once we got it all done.

      1. This year frozen but not stuffed – our bird was destined for the BBQ and was thinking with stuffing it might get a tad bit messy!
      2. Just one! With the 10lb bird we had this year and only 5 of us (my mom, DH and 2 kidlets 5 & 8) I have 3/4 of a bird left! I could eat turkey every day for a week after Thanksgiving but unfortunately DH & the kidlets are not fans.
      3. Turkey, turkey & more turkey!!!
      4. Pumpkin is my absolute favourite with apple pie a close second. This year it was apple pie with coconut cream whipped cream on top!
      5. A little bit of both – I managed some pictures when we went on our forest walk in the morning (like yours above) and one picture of the turkey going onto the bbq (the first time we cooked it this way) and that was it! For me it was about enjoying my time with my DH, mom & kids.
