How to Survive Life in the Suburbs

Feeling Beautiful At Every Age: Olay

in Everyday, Lifestyle on 04/03/14

“It’s what’s on the inside that counts.”

“Real beauty is on the inside.”

These are the things we tell our children these are the things we tell ourselves, but is it true?  Yes, the inside counts, but shocker…so does the outside!

Olay1

Last week I had a very unique experience. I was invited to attend a “Turn Back the Clock” event.  The #AgeDefy, #BestBeautiful event was being hosted by Olay and Clairol in a sassy salon owned by Luis Pacheco in downtown Toronto.

Olay8OlayTreats

I walked up a bright purple carpet, and was met with a warm room; buzzing with fashion, lifestyle and beauty bloggers all sipping coffee and green teas, eager and excited to hear presentations by renowned professionals in the skin and beauty fields.  Was I one of those women?  Did I want to hear their secrets to turn back the clock?  Is this the information I was hoping to gain?  I went into the day with an open mind and what I heard left me nodding my head in agreement, standing a little taller and maybe even feeling a little more hopeful about life as a woman, and my looks as I roll well into my 40’s!

 Olay14Olay13

I had the pleasure of listening to Vivian Diller PH.D speak to a room full of women about aging, and our perception of self through the different stages of our life.  As an authour, a former professional ballerina, and Wilhelmina Model, she eloquently explained that from very early on we are hardwired to care about our looks.  Our looks are important to us, they are a big part of our feminine identity and there is nothing wrong with that!  The reality is, people do judge a book by it’s cover.  At least for a moment.  It has been said that within the first 7 seconds of meeting someone, assumptions are drawn immediately based on those ever important first impressions.  What do you notice the moment you meet someone?  Their winning smile, their bright eyes, their well kept or unruly hair?  Whatever it is, we notice, we take stock.  It’s just the way it is, and as we age the way we look changes too!

Have you ever walked past a mirror and been shocked by what you seen?  Ever found that first grey hair and plucked it out of panic?  Ever glanced in the mirror and seen your mother looking back?  I have.  How did you deal??  What do you do when the woman looking back at you with the green eyes is no longer that 20 year old girl you remember, but now belong a women in a 40’s with wrinkles?  Are you still happy?  The transition can be hard!  It turns out the women who do well as they age, who are truly happy, are the one’s who have a flexible self image and redefine what beauty means at each stage.  Beauty comes in every size, shape and yes age, and Olay and Clairol spent an afternoon chatting about how to look and feel your best at every age and stage of life.  It was empowering.

Olay7

How is Olay helping? They have introduced an entire line of products to help us fight the seven signs of aging, to be our #BestBeautiful.  Not long ago I was introduced to Olay Total Effects CC 7.

“Total Effects combines 7 anti aging skin care benefits into 1 formula for visibly younger-looking skin. From cleansing to moisturizing, Total Effects offers an array of products dedicated to making your skin look its best. Using an exclusive VitaNiacin formula, Total Effects moisturizers out-perform several leading department store products and are also proven effective in fighting 7 signs of aging—the look of fine lines and wrinkles, rough texture, the appearance of prominent pores and age spots, uneven skin tone, surface dullness and dryness.” Olay

To compliment this product we were introduced to, The Dark Circle Minimizer (and the one I will be keeping in my purse from now on), the EYE Brightening Cream!

Olay6

I’ve now been using the EYE Brightening Cream every day for a week.  It’s my new favourite product!  It’s light, glides on easily and has an immediate effect on those dark circles residing on my face.   Combined with the new Olay CC, these products promise instant results and long term effects.  Add in a healthy diet, adequate sleep and exercise and moderate alcohol consumption to be your very best you at every age and stage of life.  Brilliant.

 Olay4Olay5

My take away from my afternoon discussing age defying secrets?  You don’t have to fight, be afraid, or shy away from getting older.  The key to success is to protect your skin, embrace your hair colour or find a hair product that works for you, be confident, and simply embrace your beauty at every age.  Thanks Olay

I love events like that! Educational, fun, and worthwhile. I also love Olay having used a lot of their products for a long time, I know they DO work. I am at the age now where I’m noticing way more fine lines, so what I use on my face is VERY important! Truth is, there are products out there that can help our skin!

It does matter what’s on the outside, 🙁 but I’m so happy to know it matters what we think of our outsides more!

Since I am turning the big 4-0 in a couple months I should really start taking better care of my skin so I might just have to check out the Olay line. Guess I can’t ignoring it forever…lol

I ignored my skin for far too long. (with the exception of sunscreen!) So glad I started paying attention now. If you try the Olay line let me know, I’d love to know what you think.

I HAVE walked by the mirror and seen some strange women looking back! It happened quite suddenly and I was ill prepared. I do love the idea of women learning to be flexible with their self image. What else can we do? And I’m not cutting back on wine, so I better go try some of that Eye Brightening Cream!

      • Stephanie says

        May 3, 2014 at 12:55 am

LOL I knew I couldn’t be alone! It is a little shocking! And I’m with you, keep living it up, just take care of your skin while you do it!

I love Olay, and I’ll be honest. It’s only been since I hit 40 a few years ago, that I’ve started to actually accept myself.. I hated getting pictures taken, for some reason it’s not horribly bad now….aging.. expect it, enjoy it, embrace it.

      • Stephanie says

        May 3, 2014 at 12:54 am

It’s funny that you say that, because I am finally starting to feel the same way! Why or why didn’t we get our picture on when we were 19 or 20? LOL Oh well, at least we are starting to accept who we are now, and just smiling!
