How to Survive Life in the Suburbs

Broken Record – Broken Heart

in Family on 02/23/18

Please don’t leave your wet towels on the floor.

Who’s turn is it to feed the dog?  He’s clearly hungry.

For once maybe just empty the garbage without being asked.

Put the damn dishes IN the dishwasher.  Oh and if you see that the dishes are clean in there?  Empty it!

WHY is it so hard to put a new roll of toilet paper on toilet paper holder?

Turn off the lights!

For the love of Pete, RECYCLE that empty box, don’t just leave it in the cupboard!

I feel like a broken record.  Years and years of quietly nagging, jostling, begging and sometimes even yelling at my family to pick up their crap, to give me a hand, to complete the tasks they start.  Just to help a little bit more.

This dark February morning had me feeling all kinds of unappreciated, undervalued, invisible in my own home.  I found myself mumbling under my breath, shaking my head, even stomping my feet a little bit as I huffed my way around the house down to the laundry room with yet another overflowing load of laundry I would never be thanked for.  Then I stopped dead in my tracks.  Tears filled my eyes, my breath…taken.

In 17 homes in Florida 17 Mothers will never again have the chance to nag their baby to pick up their dirty clothes.

17 Moms will never shake their heads as they pick up stray dishes left behind by their distracted teenager.

17 Parents won’t have the chance to feel angry or sad because they feel unappreciated.

17 Moms will never get to hug their children, hear them laugh, watch them cry, struggle, succeed, grow-up.

17 Mommies have been robbed.  Robbed of everything.

Today the dishes don’t matter.  The wet towels, the recycling, the laundry, the lights and the chores not done all fade away.  Tonight I will hold my girls closer.  Thankful for every time I have the opportunity to nag or hassle for a job not done,  I will say thanks for all I have and the country that I live in.  I will pray for those who have lost…..everything.

Something has to change.  Now.

Children shouldn’t be afraid to go to school.

You can’t fix a gun problem with more guns.

This generation of young people, the ones who speak from their hearts, stand up, march side by side with the other fearless students ready to take on the world, they are the ones that will change the world for the better.

I believe in #NeverAgain.

These tragedies seem to be getting more frequent and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight unfortunately.

Just how much extra time we would have if we didn’t have to be complaining about the stuff we want the other to do….So thankful everyday that I have them in my life!

Such a good read and so true. Sadly, a threat was made just at the tail end of our Spring Break towards our son’s High School. Thankfully, they arrested the kid who created the Instagram account and post. Our son was aware right away as the account in question sent him a friend request. Other kids had already been aware at that point and already reported to police who were able to act swiftly. Unnerving feel though receiving an email on the Monday from principal explaining it is safe for your kid to come to school.

You are so right! Little aggravations seem big . . . until something that’s really important is brought to our attention.

We sure have to appreciate what we have. May God bless these families with strength. Also the mother who went through a road block and ended up loosing her 3yr. old in the rushing water in Orangeville. He still has not been recovered. It was a stupid move on her part but my heart aches for her. I can’t even begin to imagine what she is going threw.
