How to Survive Life in the Suburbs

10 Free Things To Do In Las Vegas

in Travel on 02/20/18

School calendars, dance schedules, and exams.  The calendar fills up so quickly, and so much of it has very little has to do with me.  It’s wonderful to keep your life full and busy with incredible activities for your children, but every once in a while you have to carve out a little bit of time for you too.  So when you see 3 or 4 days in a row where there is a window of time not smushed full of obligations what are two adventure-seeking parents to do?  Jump a jet to Las Vegas of course!

Las Vegas is full of stunning hotels, incredible shows, fabulous restaurants, so many places to spend your hard earned money!  Here are our top choices for the best free things to do in Las Vegas.

  1. Bellagio’s Symphony of Fountains – One of the most iconic sites in Las Vegas are the dancing fountains in front of the Bellagio Hotel.  This spectacle is set to music, as jets of water and lights are blasted into the air all against the backdrop of a cheering crowd.
  2. Freemont Street Experience– Head downtown for a peek at the “old” Las Vegas!  A walk down Freemont Street is more than a stroll, it’s an experience. Freemont Street at night is a special experience where you can catch Viva Vision every hour on the hour on the overhead canopy – a light show of images and music projected right onto the canopy ceiling. 3. The Venetian – Pizza! Gelato!  Opera! Walking into the Venetian is like walking into the middle of St Marks Square in Venice, Italy.  Immediately you are surrounded by costumed singers, performers, great restaurants and of course the “canal” where you can take a gondola ride if you wish.  (Note: There is a fee for the gondola ride.)
  4. The Park – Located between Monte Carlo and New York-New York is The Park, a public walkway with lots of public seating and beautiful outdoor artwork. Bonus, there is free Wifi so it’s a perfect spot to capture that next Instagram picture.  Not to be missed: BLISS DANCE A 40-foot, 7,500 pound statue with 3,000 LED lights.  Picture courtesy of theparkvegas.com
  5. Wildlife Habitat at the Flamingo Hotel – Wave hello to the pink flamingos at the 15-acre wildlife habitat open to the public.  Escape the noise and crowds of the Vegas strip as you explore the acres of lush foliage home to exotic birds, fish, and turtles. Picture courtesy of Vegas.Com.
  6. The Fall of Atlantis Show – Located in Caesar’s Palace in the Forum Shops is a show featuring animatronic statues.  It runs every hour on the hour, starting at 11:00 a.m. and until 11 p.m or 12 p.m.
  7. CBS Television City – If you have a TV lover in your group be sure to stop by CBS Television City.  Here you may have the chance to check out one of the new pilots they are screening and provide some feedback! Not only will you be the first in know on what’s on TV soon, but you will be “paid” for your time in TV swag.  So much fun.
  8. Seven Magic Mountains Located approximately ten miles south of Las Vegas, Nevada is the Seven Magic Mountains art display.  Created by artist Ugo Rondinone in May of 2016, the artwork punctuates the arid dessert with a brilliant burst of colour. *Photo Credit sevenmagicmountains.com.
  9. Container Park – For a unique shopping experience take a stroll through the Container Park on Freemont Street. This one of a kind shopping center is a mix of 40 shipping containers and 41 multifunctional modular cubes.  Featured stores include boutique retail shops, restaurants, and live entertainment for the whole family. 10. The Neon Museum Boneyard. Almost free! Starting at US $15 per ticket The Collection of incredible Las Vegas signs that make up the Neon Boneyard and Urban Gallery are worth the price.  This tour can be taken during the day or night.  Reservations are recommended for this stroll through Vegas history.  Photo Credit: NeonMuseum.org.Happy Travels!

There is so much to see, even walking around and seeing the sights for free! There is also a volcano you can see at the Mirage at no cost, or the Shelby Museum for any gear heads in your group.

Oooh great ideas! Some of these I haven’t done so I’ll have to next time I go. And I do love the Bellagio fountains, I could spend a lot of time watching them 🙂

Freemont Street was such a fabulous surprise when I went. The rock band playing there was out of this world playing hit songs & they were extremely talented. It was my favorite night in Vegas! Dancing until 2am & meeting new people from all over the world. Awesome!
