How to Survive Life in the Suburbs

That is NOT how it’s done!

in Everyday on 01/12/18

Last week I had the pleasure of having some routine tests. Nothing to worry about.

I had to go have some blood taken.  Good times.

As I sat down in the chair the teeny tiny19 year old baby girl professional blood tech  says to me.

“Oh wow this is a lot of blood I have to take today.”

Followed by.

“Hmmm, Are you worried about this?”

Well crap, I am now!

“Do you feel dizzy yet?”

OMG I was fine, but now….yes..I think I do!

Thanks an awful lot you little vampire wanna be.  You took a routine blood test and turned it into an anxiety-ridden event I won’t soon forget.  You might want to consider a different career.  I bet you would be great at ultrasounds.

Oh my gosh – it’s the WORST when they start talking to me through it like “you sure have tiny veins” or “your veins are rolling and they’re hard to catch”. Excuse me while I faint.

I have blood taken on a regular basis (comes with being a quadriplegic) and to make matters worse I’ve got teeny tiny veins, yeah ! Most vampire techs are really good but when you get the newbies it’s like they’re drilling holes and looking for oil and I just love afterward when they say answer their own question “Now that didn’t hurt did it” to which I truthfully say “Yes it hurt like hell” lol. But the shock on their faces is the best because they expect their answered question to not come with a response but to hell with that. There’s my little story for the day and the moral “tell it like it is” so they try to do better next time or suffer the sarcastic wrath !! Lol

Ugh, that sounds awful! I hate getting blood taken so this would put me right over the top!

Bedside manner is SO important in the medical profession.. I’ve been on both ends and understand how scary situations can be sometimes even if it’s something that ISN’T scary…
