Blinded By The Blue. What Would You DO?

You walk into a store and are greeted by the general manager.  The same one who is always there.  She’s nice enough.  Wears jeans and sweaters to work.  It’s not a fancy place.  She’s not overly friendly, but whatever, that’s her issue.  Or is it?

Maybe she has her bitch on because she doesn’t realize that every single time she meets with a new client she ends up frustrated.  Why you ask?  Maybe because each encounter she begins she is not putting her best face forward, she is putting this face forward: (err or one very close to it!)

When this Mimi Mama puts on her face in the morning, it includes about 12 coats of iridescent blue eye shadow and some wicked long Mimi style eyelashes.  To say her make-up is distracting from well…everything, is only to tell the truth!  So here is my question; Where are her girlfriends? Where is her Mother?  Isn’t there someone in her life that can take her to MAC and get her set up to put her best face forward?  Or am I just that far out of the loop, is this much blue making a come back?

Ever had a friend with make-up stuck in the 80s? (or an episode of Drew Carey)  What did you do?  Clearly I don’t know this women so I smile, nod and keep my mouth shut, but if this was your friend or colleague would you steer her away from the 80’s and towards the new millennium?  Enquiring minds want to know!

  1. Lynda Cook says:

LMAO!! that is so funny, if it was someone I didn’t know I would be nice and polite, but if it was a friend or someone I new omg look out for the laughs and jokes, that is just way to much, I wouldn’t be able to keep my mouth

    • Stephanie says:

Oh this is not a good look for anyone! LOL Yes, good friends should not keep their mouths shut, they need to spill 🙂

  2. friends dont let friends roll 80s faces….just saying….hahaha

  3. Thank goodness my friends aren’t nearly polite enough to let me leave the house looking like that! Neither is my husband for that matter or my kids. But just think about it this way. She puts her face on and then looks at herself and says, yeah I look great! I am ready for the day.

    • Stephanie says:

Oh my goodness you are right, this woman looks at herself every single day and says “Yep, good to go!” I guess as long as she’s happy that’s all that matters!

  4. Hmmm. I can’t think of anyone stuck in the 80s that I see regularly, but certainly the 70s crew is there and looking for attention. With them, I just smile and talk about surfing and such.

  5. Oh, I hope that blue is not making a comeback. I don’t have a friend with bad makeup, but I do have a friend with bad eyebrows – the penciled on look is becoming more and more clown-like (giant over-sized half circle) as time goes on. And I just don’t feel we’re good enough friends to say anything. Eeek! It does make me tell my best friend over and over that she needs to tell me if I ever start doing something like that!

    • Stephanie says:

Ekk I know exactly the look you are talking about! The plucking of eyebrows easily gets out of control, and the drawing them back in can go bad in a hurry! I wonder if they were to see a picture of themselves if that would help? Hmmm off to double check myself I the mirror now 🙂

  6. Why is blue eyeshadow even produced? It’s horrid, awful stuff!
I say, leave her an anonymous note!

  7. Haha..yeah I met a few times people like that, stuck in the 80s 🙂 If they were my friends I think I would wait for the right time to let her know my thouths about her looking. depends how close we are or not..

    • Stephanie says:

I agree, if this was a close friend I would have to find a way to drop some subtle hints that a new colour might be a better choice. 🙂

  8. Thank goodness I have no friends stuck in the ’80’s!

I do remember when my eldest was in high school and she went through her ‘goth’ stage. Oh the make-up she wore. Just a stage.

  9. LOL! I’m a nice person and I always think about the well being of the people around me. But if I see my friend looking like that I’ll be brutally honest with her (him for that matter). This is a Halloween make up 😉 I like blue, but this is way way too much …….. LOL
Thank you Stephanie, you have made my evening.

    • Stephanie says:

I’m with you! I’m always afraid of hurting someone’s feelings however, letting your girlfriend go out with make-up like this is the equivalent of letting them go out with broccoli in their teeth, it just shouldn’t happen! 🙂

  10. I always wonder that when people choose to present themselves in a bizarre way – does no one in their life say anything? Or maybe they do, but the person still thinks they look pretty snazzy?

    • Stephanie says:

You know I hadn’t thought of that! Maybe someone did already say something and she just plain thinks she is rockin it!

  11. I have a few colleagues who are stuck between eras. Blue eye liner, bad jeans, the same hair down their back they had in the 70’s. It’s hard to sometimes look past the surface but once you do, there’s generally a great story underneath it all.

    • Stephanie says:

Blue eyeliner!! I’m sure I wore that back in high school! I’m also sure this Mama has a fabulous story including why she loves herself some blue eye shadow. When it comes right down to it, it really only matters that she is happy with the way she looks, nothing else!

  12. I would hope someone would kindly tell me if I was stuck in an era but, then again, maybe this lady has been told and she just loves the 80s!

  13. I would give some make up remover cloths for Christmas. I hear Biore makes some good ones.

  14. loucheryl says:

WOW! Great post. If it was a really close friend or close family member, I would say something very gently about changing up her make-up…BUT, I do have a Fashion Arts Cosmetology diploma so coming from me it might come easier than from someone who doesn’t “know” as much about make up. Who knows.

  15. Melinda L. says:

Hmmmm that’s a tough one. If it was a close friend or family member, I would try some way to hint at it and be gentle about how I approach it because clearly they don’t really think of it that way. Or maybe I’ll take them by a cosmetic counter and be like let’s get a makeover just for fun and see how we like the new look. Honestly, there is no good way to tell them that their makeup needs to be updated/improved.

  16. I don’t have a friend like this….but your Manager lady has a twin who works at Kohls in my ‘hood. Nice as heck…but the hair and makeup are mesmerizing to me!

  17. 🙂 It would depend on how well I knew her. Would she expect what I had to say? I am not out to hurt others and make them feel less about themselves if they are not ready to hear it.

  18. Victoria Ess says:

Haha I would give anything to have a visual of the woman you encountered!

  19. Anne Taylor says:

I would most definitely steer a friend away from the 80s makeup! Leave the 80s where they belong (in the 80s)

  20. in the mid 90’s a manager of mine had this type of makeup it was even out of fashion then. Just odd to see a young professional wearing that type of makeup. Since then she has changed her style and looks so much calmer and respectful

  21. Oh my! I agree! I myself, have never, owned blue eyeshadow…

  22. Chandra Christine O'Connor says:

what we may think is not pretty to us may be beautiful to her.

  23. Darlene Schuller says:

lol .. I put blue eyeshadow on once.. my girls said “OMG MOM BLUE EYE SHADOW IS THE WHORISH COLOUR”.. wow.. lol

  24. You make some good points
