Welcome!

I'm often amazed and confused by the bizarre happenings behind the closed and competitive doors of the typical suburban home. The following is a place to share my thoughts and reflections on daily life as I try to navigate this crazy and wonderful world.

WTH?

Giant birds outside my back door!  Florida is amazing:)

I’m pretty sure these big babies would have let me pet them, but I have a rule, I do not touch birds that are taller then my first born child.

Actually, I just don’t touch birds, they kinda freak me out! They could peck your eye balls out!

Anyway, anyone know what kind of pretty this is?

Must head back to the pool.

National Geographic Photographer OUT!

Mwah!

I'm not sure, but they might me herons. When I lived in the Orlando area they were everywhere.

Have fun on your vacay!

So glad you're enjoying your vacation!! Yes, we do have a lot of pretty cool looking birds in FL. I get those big birds (white ones mostly) in my front yard. My dog hates them. I've tried to tell him to chill out...those birds are bigger than he is!! Have fun :)

What are you blogging for girl?! Go and enjoy some sunshine and warm weather for us all!

BTW, loved the photo but I'm with you, since seeing the Hitchcock movie the Birds, I'd stay clear.

There is fabulous wildlife all over the state of Florida. Even monkeys living in the wilds.

Cara's right, they're herons. Not as friendly as they look, good thing you didn't try to pet one. Unless you like hanging out at the pool with band-aids all over.

I think they are egrets. Florida has a whole bunch of different kinds.

I don't suggest touching them though...I'll give petting a duck a good college try, but, those beaks look like they could snap a fish in half...trying not to think about how that might work with my hand.

I think I just had a high school flashback...I think they are, and don't hold me to it, some kind of crane. 'Egret' was the partial name of my first Fl neighborhood.

Okay, and this time that is all...really.

Once I went to Busch Gardens and there were these flamingoes in this pen. And if you got close enough they would totally try to make out with you and feel you up and peck at your jewelry and stick their beaky things down your shirt.

It was very National Geographic meets Flamingoes Gone Wild.

Well, here now I was about to show my son the heron like in the brown bear book. Good thing I kept reading!
I'm glad you are having fun, we seem to be getting neighborly again in the top mom blogs

Birds and me don't get along (ask the seagull that stole the hotdog right out of my bun mid-bite). Those are beautiful, but you'd hear me screaming for miles if I opened my back door for that guest! :)

They ARE beautiful, but I would be freaked out too. I'm not a big bird fan, either.

Yay! I am glad you are having a good time! Cool pics of the birds- now get back to the pool!

Are those some kind of cranes or herons?

Have a wonderful vacation!

armyblond said...

What kinda birds are they? I have never seen anything bigger than a Canadian goose anywhere other than in the zoo ...

Matty said...

They look like herons, but what do I know. They're pretty nonetheless. Lucky you.

Jessica (The Unemployed Mom) said...

Ha, those are Sand Hill Cranes. The first time I encountered one, I was pretty freaked out too. They HATE dogs, any time they see my golden retriever they take off in the opposite direction.

If you don't want them coming around regularly, do not feed them. I had a neighbor who enjoyed their company, everyday at 3 pm I'd hear them squawking at his door.

I think I would run! I wouldn't be messing with them...lol

I don't know what kind of bird they are but wow, sooo pretty! Wear thick goggles if you pet them? LOL!

ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY!!

Alyssa said...

Don't know about the birds, but where are you? Not "where are you" as in "I'm stalking you" but what part of Fl? I'm just jealous. I know. So wish I were there now.

I'm glad you're sharing. Don't they say we can live vicariously?

Those sure are pretty..but I have no idea what they are. Hope you're having a great time.

McGillicutty said...

I am pretty sure they are gray herons.. Great Grannie in law lives in South Tampa and has a couple of fairly tame ones in her yard.
I would be afraid they'd carry off the kids to the circus like on Dumbo!!! LOL... enjoy your vacay!!

We were just in Florida in December, and I so wanted to see some birds. Of course, none. I went home a sad Canadian.

I LOVE FLorida. I want to live in Florida. If I say it often enough, do you think it'll happen??
