Welcome!

I'm often amazed and confused by the bizarre happenings behind the closed and competitive doors of the typical suburban home. The following is a place to share my thoughts and reflections on daily life as I try to navigate this crazy and wonderful world.

She is 11 going on 16

My BlueEyed girl turns 11 today.
I honestly don't know where the years have gone.
She arrived following a wicked snow squall that silenced the city.
On that day the love I felt was so great, so overwhelming, it nearly stopped my heart.
She changed my life forever.
She is my dream come true.
My daily challenge.
A confident, defiant, expressive, whirlwind in one moment, a stumbling, eager, quiet thinker the next.
Bright and brilliant.
Beautiful and creative.
Friend to the lonely and leader of the pack.
She is caught in that awkward place between child and teenager.
Needing Mommy, wanting to do it all herself.
We have learned together, fallen together, cried together and laughed together.
I thank God for her each and every night.

As she stumbles towards adulthood I will lead, she will rebel.
We will butt heads.
We are too much alike.
I am so proud of the person she has become, and am excited to see what this world has in store for her. What she has in store for the world!

One of my favorite sayings "Prepare the child for the path, not the path for the child."

Baby girl I am doing my best.

To you, on your 11th Birthday, I wish you sweet dreams, exciting adventures, true friends, and good health.

I truly adore you with all of my heart.

Mommy

Love letters to our children are the best. You both sound so lucky to have each other.

Cheers! And congratulations on 11 years since you had one of the most special days of your life :-)

Having raised two girls, I know where you're coming from. Been there, done that. You both will survive. Trust me.

Happy Birthday to her.

Love your words about your daughter. She is as lucky to have you as you are to have her. I am a teacher of 11-year olds and it is my favourite age of all...so young and innocent, becoming so aware of the world around them and their role in it. Happy birthday to your BlueEyed girl!

Your favorite saying is smart, it's the right thing to do as her Mom. We never know, any of us, where the path leads...
I say Happy Birthday to her!

What an deeply loving, sweet, and tender tribute to your daughter. Enjoy. And great reminder about NOT preparing the path. I am guilty of regular path clearing and preparing. Also, loved your previous post about the shit that goes through our heads as we "try" to go to sleep at night. I have learned that once I look at the clock, it is over for me. Never look at the clock!!no matter what. I still do it sometimes.

I award you.

What a beautiful post! They grow up so fast. She'll love you no matter what, and will one day appreciate everythingy you do for her [even if she doesn't realize it now.]

And yes ma'am. I do know my football. We are born and bred into the SEC from the time we are born. The first words uttered to my son when he was born were, "Hey Noah. Roll Tide!" Haha. It's serious for us. Third only to God and Family.

What a nice post, it reminds me to remember the relationship I used to have with my now 17-yr-old-pricklier-than-heck daughter and hold on to the hope that she's going to come out the other side of teenagerdom remembering the things she's been taught.
