Welcome!

I'm often amazed and confused by the bizarre happenings behind the closed and competitive doors of the typical suburban home. The following is a place to share my thoughts and reflections on daily life as I try to navigate this crazy and wonderful world.

Tomorrow I'm Taking The High Road

Today I'm going to whine...

Swine flu or whatever the Doctors have decided to deem the "virus" that has knocked out 40% of the elementary school's population sucks.

The Media can take a flying leap. They are not doing the fab job of educating they could be...they are doing an unbelievable great job of sensationalizing.

I did what the Doctors, my Doctors recommended for me. I got the H1N1 shot. We all know how that turned out. Meh.

I consider myself lucky. I was ridiculously scared for about 24 hours, but now I am protected from a terrifying virus.

My tongue still "buzzes" a wee bit, but I have stopped (okay almost stopped) worrying that my throat is going to close up.

Some things I am afraid of...
-H1N1 is just the second in a long line of scary virus that are going to attack our generation and the next. Picking innocent, healthy people at random. SARS was the first?
-Protecting our children is going to become more difficult, not easier as they grow up in a world who's environment is out of control.
-If our Canadian Heath system is going to see a shortage of this apparently coveted vaccine, what will happen to the war torn and third world nations on this earth?

Some things I have learned....
-There are a number of people who are allergic to MSG who are having very similar reactions to the H1N1 shot that I did. I have not been tested for an allergy to MSG, but know I can not eat a darn thing that contains it. MSG= raging headache.
-When I'm a nervous wreck my family is there for me. Hubby brings the heart rate back in line.
-Invisible Bloggy friends...wow. The words of support and encouragement. The advice and the love! Thanks! I felt overwhelmed and touched and in reality, not that big a deal. Thanks:)

So until the next crisis....I shall now resume my usual rants and raves, my kudos and complaints about all the crazies here in the Suburbs!

Thanks for the love!
Mwah!

I agree, I don't know what we will be dealing with next and after seeing the shortages and problems with this vaccine, I don't have much confidence in our government.

I think we are going to turn into a society that does everything from home plugged into our laptops and computer afraid to venture outside.

Scary!

You poor baby!! I hope you recover from this allergic reaction soon.
Please take good care, glad Hubster looks after you.

Who knew that if you were allergic to MSG that you would have a reaction to the vacination. I guess it is a good things that I decided against it.

The MSG connection is interesting. I can't eat gluten, which is in MSG, so I'm glad I did not get the H1N1 shot! I'm also glad that you are feeling better. Very scary! I agree that the media sensationalizes everything. Drama!

Im glad you are feeling better.

I wonder if there hadn't been so much hype over the virus and shot, if more people would opt to get the shot.
So much drama can turn people against the shot as much as it has people desperate to have it.

Feel better. :)

Very worrying that this is being given so freely. Hope you are feeling better soon.

oh dear, i'm afraid that you might worry just as much as i do :)

i so did NOT know about being allergic to MSG and the reaction to the shot... I am allergic to MSG and i don't know if i want the shot to do to me what MSG does... oh jeeeeeeez louise, it's always something!!!

Blog posts like this should and need to be written and expressed... I'm sorry! HUGS major HUGS to you! I too hope you're feeling all better after the shot. I'm sorry you had a reaction to it! I'm still scared of H1N1 and we're all vaccinated... I'm having a hard time figuring out why my baby needs a 2nd dose, but not my 4 year old... that's just BIZARRE if you ask me!!!

Glad you are doing well. MSG is just not good in any form. We are working on getting anything with it out of our house.

I suppose we are no worse off than our grandparents that saw their children afflicted with polio or suffered through the cold war. Each generation has to face something - having children makes amplifies it though.

It is scary, and yes, I'm thankful I live in Canada and not in a third world countries where vaccine is scarce. Hopefully H1N1 will go away soon.

Oooh, I have bad reactions to MSG. Thanks for the tip.

I've been told as a government worker, I have to have the vaccine when it becomes available. I didn't want it before, now I really don't!

Hope you get back to 100% soon!

Viruses scare me. AGH! I can relate to your worry about what's next up the pike...

Down with MSG. Thanks for taking one for the Migraine team!

Technodoll said...

Of course we love ya! Duh! It's karma my dear :)

I have not and will not get the postal code vaccine, I don't believe in the media hype... Although if I had children I might reconsider. Not sure on that one.

MSG sucks!! Makes me bloated, headachey and ill for days!

Glad to see that your feeling so much better. I totally agree that there is more controversy than solutions about the H1N1 virus and its vaccine. Hopefully this is the last big scary virus scare for awhile.

The Crazy Baby Mama said...

shit, i JUST read this post, and i'm so sorry you had such difficulty with the vaccine.

so far, no one i know in the US has had a reaction like this -- i wonder if canadian vaccines are made by the same makers as their american counterparts? hmm...

please continue to keep us up-to-date -- be well.

You know, once I had children I realized what a scary world this really is. There are so many terrible things that can hit at anytime.

Makes you want to grab them, hold on tight and never let go!

Glad your throat didn't close up. :)

I am so back and forth. I really am. A great nurse and friend told me she won't get it...because it isn't 100%.

And all of us have suddenly caught a REALLY bad cold....and I keep waiting for the fever or throw-up that deems I have the dreaded flu.

And I have considered homeschooling to prevent my kids from getting shot.

It is getting to be way too much
