Welcome!

I'm often amazed and confused by the bizarre happenings behind the closed and competitive doors of the typical suburban home. The following is a place to share my thoughts and reflections on daily life as I try to navigate this crazy and wonderful world.

Are You A ModernMom?

Deb from Menopausal New Mom tagged me today and it was just the kick in the pants I needed to get out another long over due award!

I think I will start with...

The PIMP Award

Michelle form the oh so honest and addictive Finding Trinity has honored me with her brand new PIMP award (aka peeing in my pants) Cute right?

A big Thanks to Michelle! I'm going to this little baby on to:

Matty Thoughts -What? You haven't read him yet? It's time!

Now back to the Tag!

I've been asked to explain what it is that makes me a true authentic Mom, A Theta Mom.
A Modern Mom if you will! Ha

1. My kids come first. They have from the moment I peed on the stick and the double lines showed up. They know they are safe and protected and loved. They know they will always have a safe place to fall and a Mommy who will encourage and push them to be their best.

2. I also try to be true to myself...and hang on to a little bit of the authentic me! The years are flying by and one day before I am ready these two little birds are going to leave the nest. I will be left behind with just the hubby. To that end I cherish and nurture the relationship I have with Hubby. I think showing this to my girls, leading by example, teaching them that the world does not revolve around them but that Mom has to have a life, I am preparing them for their lives ahead. Preparing me too!

Enough with the deep thoughts!

3. I have walked through the grocery store with baby spit up on my shirt and a baseball hat on my head. Sometimes you do what you have to do. This is real Mom.

4. I have told the kids NO they can not have cookies before breakfast and then snuck 3 with my morning coffee.

5. I have stood in line a half hour before the opening of a store to get the coveted Christmas Toy of the year that is marked down 50% and in short supply all over the city. Maybe they are a bit spoiled but the light and excitement in their eyes when they tear open that Christmas Gift from Santa and I get no credit....that is what a real Mom does.

There are no limits to what a ModernMom can do...or how many people she can tag for this wee meme. I'm choosing just one!

Suz...I'm tagging you!

Please go over and visit the cutest blogger, and most honest environmental lovin Mom ever.

Day By Day, My Life As A Busy Bee

To all my other invisible friends....What is it that makes you a real ModernMom? Feel free to play along, I'd love to hear I am not alone!

You are so sweet!!! I love your Mom-ism's...we have much in common!
I am so happy to know I am not the only one donning a baseball cap in public lately, something I used to NEVER do. :0
I will try to fill this tag soon.
Hugs, Suz

Heather, that was a fabulous list! I can't believe how quickly you came up with it! I can so relate to being a mom the minute you peed on the stick. I would not take a drop of medication during the entire pregnancy, wanted to save up all those points for the delivery where I used every drug available Lol! Wearing the baseball hat and spit-covered cloths out in public didn't bother me at all. I loved your list

I watched almost a WHOLE episode of Sesame Street with my eleven year old daughter who is home from school today recovering from a virus (Swine flu???)
She wanted to watch to see Michelle Obama who made a guest appearance.

I can see that modern moms don't have time for much sleep, what with taking care of the house, the kids, the hubby, and themselves.
You're never on a day off.

The whole one day the kids will be gone and I'm left with me and the hubby is ringing so true to me with 3 teens. This year has been a wake-up call in that respect and I've been trying to find my way through that.

Hey Modern Mom, you are still a Theta Mom in my book! ;) That's been a challenge for me, hanging on to the authentic me (as you said). Sometimes, I get so wrapped up in the kids.

that pimp award is hilarious!

i can't tell you the number of times i've gone out in public with spit up on me. it's gross, but hey. sometimes it's just what you have to do. and totally relate on the me time. it makes you a better mom!

Great list - I have NEVER been known to say no to a treat for my kids and then sneak one for myself. NEVER. ;-)

I've snuck the cookies and worn the baseball hat myself. I love your mom style!

I loved your list It made me smile and laugh and nod. I went to the grocery store the other day with pee all over my pants. But, what the hey? It was my kid's pee, so who cares?

Humbly I say, thank you. I've always wanted to be a pimp.

Sounds to me like you're a genuine Theta Mom. I like gals in baseball caps.

Oh, the Modern Mom moments. Too many to name! Some great ones in your post and in the comments above. Driving a minivan would also be on my list. Never, ever thought I'd drive (and love) a minivan. Shiver!

I love your "modern mom" answers... especially #2! I think so many moms forget to take that all-important time to ourselves!

So fun to read your answers. I sneak junk food all of the time...after I've told the kids NO. It is a grown-ups perogative! I'm sure that spelling is wrong...Whatever! Thanks for coming by today. Holly at LLL

What a wonderful post! You really do have a gift for finding just the right words to describe the juiciness of being a mom. I discovered you on Tori's blog (Three Girls and a Guy) and you had commented that you were just hearing about BlogFrog. If you ever have questions or want to explore creating a place where your readers can interact on your site, just let me know!

What makes me a modern mom could be my drive for techy stuffs! In order to keep up with my children, I make sure that I know the latest gadgets. I don't have to have them all but at least I know about them. My children and I communicate well because of the things that bind us together -- hobbies.
