Welcome!

I'm often amazed and confused by the bizarre happenings behind the closed and competitive doors of the typical suburban home. The following is a place to share my thoughts and reflections on daily life as I try to navigate this crazy and wonderful world.

The Quaking Kitty

I need a medical plan for my Pet.

Here in Canada we are quite blessed. If you take ill, or your child needs to see the pediatrician, their is no need to hesitate.

Call the Doctor, book the appointment and off you go.

See the Doc.

More often than not, grab your prescription and wave goodbye.

No big bill to pay as you exit the building.

NOT so for the sweet little kitty that just entered our lives.
Rabies shots
Ringworm pills
General Wellness check up
Eye Infection (poor little guy)
Booster Shot
Flu virus...are you KIDDING me?
Don't even get me started on how much it's going to cost to have him neutered!

Last night topped it all. We came home from a lovely family dinner to find a lethargic kitty sitting on the floor. No bounce in his step, no roar in his meow.

Maybe he was just tired?

Then about 11pm the shaking started.

What?

Not your average "someone just walked over my grave" tremble.

Full on tremors. Shaking with every breath.

We called the Emergency vet number.

They said we needed to bring him in.

We have had a dog for 9 years and never had to make a trip like this.

What we learned by 1am?
Ear infections can cause a kitten to spike a fever , quickly making sweet kitty dehydrated. All of this combined brings on the quakes, shakes or shivers.

Poor little kitty.

Poor little checking account.

This little man is costing me a fortune!

Good thing he's cute.....

OMG! I never knew that an ear infection could bring on all of those other symptoms. Hope Kitty feels better soon!

Poor little kitty!

I'm going to sound cold hearted saying this but, that is exactly why I don't have a cat/dog.

Also because the thought of having to look after something else fills my heart with dread... but whatever. :)

Glad that the kitty is okay...

Awww... Poor kitty. Hope kitty and your bank account feel better soon!

I never knew ear infections could do that! I have two little guys and never had that happen.

I hope you're little man will be better soon.

Ya those checking accounts never seem to have enough when it comes to covering medical bills - pets included!

Pets are a little like cars, they can go for a long time without problems, then they can cost you a bundle all at once. A couple I know just spent six thousand dollars on an operation for their cat!

I have 3 cats right now and have never had them get an ear infection. You just got lucky with this little one. Of course we have had major surgery, several enemas, and one with a blood disorder - ya want to trade?

Oh poor kitty, hope he feels better soon.
Here in the UK the vet bills are extortionate! Thank god we have a dog insurance or we wouldn't be able to have a roof over our head right now. The downside of having a dog the size of a cow is that the vet bills are the size of cows too...
Get well soon Kitty!

Wow! I never heard of that. The only time I had to take an emergency vet visit was when kitty got into the stupid coffee! I can imagine that bill wasn't a pretty picture.

Aww, poor lil kitty. I know it can be so costly. I know in the last 2 years I've spent so much on my dog, she just turned 15. But...they are our babies eh?

Glad kitty is ok. Pets are not cheap. Our bills are over $1000 for the dog bites. Hopefully we won't be paying them though.

Seriously we need to trade my pet insurance for your health insurance. Hope the kitty feels better!

Hope your kitty is feeling better.
Yes, we spend allot on our pets.
But they are always worth it. It would help if they got sick during office hours!

Awwww, poor kitty :(
I got my dog from the pound to save money on those expensive pedigree pets
Worked out great until his hips basically displaced due to bad breeding
that's a bill you don't want to have to foot

Tell kitty to get better soon!

Poor baby. I think you just got unlucky with this cutie pie. Hopefully he will get better and only cost you gobs of cat food!

Aww, poor thing (and you)!

Yes, you're right about not having to think twice about seeing the doctor when your kids are sick...for Canadian residents. When we were there this summer, we had to take our son to the doctor's to check on some rash he had (for our peace of mind). The bill? CAD100. Less than 5 minutes' consultation; no prescription, no meds. Because we're non-residents. So yeah, I can just imagine what your vet bill might be.

That sounds really scary. I've never heard of that happening before and I've had many cats over the years. I hope you soon have sweet kitty back to meowing like a lion.
Thanks for the visit - it's nice to meet you.

Aw, poor little guy! I'm a cat person (living with a freaking dog lover...and a dog...) and your post - strangely - makes me desperate to get a kitty again! You are a good cat-mom for taking such good care of him. It will all be worth it when he snuggles up with you (sans infections) and gives you the purr of a lifetime.

Poor Kitty. We've had our pug since before we were married and I swore we would never spare her a vet visit if we suspected she was ill. Then came our 3 boys. Then came the autism diagnosis for 2 of them. Then came the REAL money trouble. Now poor pug has gone deaf and I'm sure it's because I didn't take her to the vet when I suspected an ear infection. It's Mommy Guilt vs. Pet Owner Guilt. Always failing someone. Happy Kitty has you.

I meant to comment yesterday but you can get pet insurance. A neighbour told us about it, she had it for her cats and said it was totally worth the 25.00 a month (this was 10yrs ago)

WOW! Yes, they are expensive. Two dogs here. A saint and a golden. Food alone every week kills me. But I love them. *sigh*:)

Cats are usually cheap?? Did you get it from a shelter? The poor kitty probably has to work out the shelter damage.
