Welcome!

I'm often amazed and confused by the bizarre happenings behind the closed and competitive doors of the typical suburban home. The following is a place to share my thoughts and reflections on daily life as I try to navigate this crazy and wonderful world.

There is Panic in the Suburbs. . .No More Liquor??

Forget the falling Canadian dollar, Jon and Kate are old news, the Swine Flu did not make the headlines today. The crisis in these Ontario Suburbs, the talk on the playgrounds around here? The LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario) is threatening to go on strike at midnight! Ahh! It could be a very long, dry summer for us!

If they do hit the picket lines, it would be the first strike in the history of the LCBO.

Panic has hit the quiet suburbs of Ontario. People lined up for hours, booze was pushed away in carts, carried away in boxes and bags.

Shelves were emptied.

Apparently life in Suburbia is not worth living if you can't have your vodka tonic or glass of Cabernet.

I remember my first trip to Martha's Vineyard, and the famous Black Dog restaurant. It's in a dry town, and you can bring your own alcohol, but they don't have it available for sale. One dinner was hard enough! It wasn't that I 'needed' a glass of wine, but I was upset that I couldn't have one!
I hope you stocked up...

I think it is kind of scary that so many people were out stocking up yesterday! Like, seriously! Go enjoy a drink on a patio somewhere! Scary how dependent everyone is on alcohol, don't you think? Like, in a way - wow... talk about a province filled with alcoholics! ;) JK, but kind of. I have lots of wine stocked up at home, so I guess I'm not too worried!

Wow! Seriously? A liquor run?

I'm not a huge drinker, but there is something about being told you can't have any that makes you check your liquor cabinets! It's finally hot here and who doesn't enjoy a cold bevvy on a warm summer night:)

Whoa...California has problems galore, BUT you can buy your Booze, Vodka, wine, beer, tequila, you name it at any convenient store, gas station, or Cost.co!!

Wow! Its amazing to see how panicked everyone gets with the thought of no more access to alchohol! I dont drink much but if I thought there was going to be a ban I would stock up too. Then later sell it at quadruple the price black market style, lol!

(em, who are Jon and Kate?)

Does this mean that we can expect lots of thirsty Canadians popping over to stock up in the UK? I feel I should rush out here just in case.

Would you be embarrassed to be part of a liquor run? Queuing up with the the rest of the upstanding citizens to be able to be horizontal! I would be - but I would still be there!!!!

alarming but funny!

That's scary. What's scarier is that I could imagine myself running to the liquor store to stock up on wine.

OMGoodness, how awful! I hope you beat the rush!

LOL! I saw that on the news last night and laughed my butt off. God forbid you Ontarians don't have liqour for a week or 2. Funny how no one really cares about the garbage piling up in the streets but Holy Crap Martha! We're gonna run out of wine!!

I can Purolator you some fine BC wine if you need it :)

OMGosh you CRACK me up girl! Love the shot of the empty shelf!

Fingers crossed it doesn't happen. Hate for you to have to cross a picket line ... what you think we go with out our Vodka? LOL ;)

Even though I don't drink, I'd buy a huge amount of it, because I couldn't have it.

It would be sitting in my cabinet, I'd open it up..look..and say YAAAAY, I have alcohol!... weird how we horde when we don't even drink, or use the stuff LOL

True, true... it is scary when you think you won't have access for Lord knows how long... is there still a garbage strike in TO? Talk about horrible timing! Couldn't they do it in the winter? ;)

Do you have a basement? I urge you to stockpile.

And because I'm a giver, I'll take a drink for you everyday.

Hmmm...maybe a vacation to Canada is in order. I'll tell the kids to pack light in order to make room for all the booze mama is going to take over the border and sell at triple the price.

what does this mean - just no booz at all or just after midnight?

Had to laugh about this post because I would be one of the ones to run and grab everything I could. Although was not a huge drinker, but if I ever wanted one.. least I wouldn't have been like "should have gone to the store before the strike, darn it!"

I am so happy to find out you are in Ontario too!
